  • MacBook Pro Supplies Diminishing, Updates Soon?

Word around town is that current generation MacBook Pro supplies are starting to go way down, and that traditionally means product updates should come in the relatively near future. Amazon is showing shipping times of one to two months for specific model MacBook Pros, and websites linked to other suppliers' show their stocks are dwindling as well.

It would not be surprising at all to see an imminent update to the MacBook pro line in the very near future. The last product revision came in April of 2010, 289 days ago. The MacRumors Buyer's Guide shows that the average revision time is 208 days, meaning the this seems like just the right time to see the MacBook Pro get an upgrade. It is expected that Apple will adopt Intel's next generation Sandy Bridge processors for their new pro models. We've also heard a report that the design could be slimmed down, similar in design to the 2010 MacBook Air. Some rumors are even suggesting that their may be an option to not include an Optical Drive in the next models, blurring the line between the MacBook Pro and Air models. However, nothing concrete has come out regarding what we will actually see when the MacBook Pro officially gets updated.

The only evidence against a refresh would be that Apple's website is still reporting shipping times of 24 hours for the model. Still, if you're thinking of buying a MacBook Pro, we would suggest waiting if it all possible. At this point it would be surprising if the MacBook Pros were not revised very soon.

I need an update, I've totally ruined my MBP since I got it. I'm pretty sure my screen is of by 2mm from center when closed since I dropped it :/

I guess I can hold out for another 2 years though.

I'll upgrade if they change the design slightly for better heat management.

Been in the market for a used MBP for awhile now but haven't made the plunge. What would be a good guess as to how low they'll go with the updated MBP in the near future?

I just upgraded in December and it seems I didn't have to wait long to have an almost outdated model lol. I guess that's how technology is these days though.

I always keep a thin hard cover book under my MBP, keeps it from over-heating, helps it last longer as well.

Mine rarely gets hot, most of the time its cool to touch on the bottom and below the screen where the heat sinks are.

It only gets hot when playing games in WIndows and when viewing a flash web page, then it goes from 40 degrees to around 55 degrees.

My CPU temp is at 35 degrees now and so is GPU with the the heatsinks around 33 degrees and its cool to touch and I'm in a warm room. Fans are at 1996-2000rpm
Blocking the bottom heat vent is the cause of hot MBP's.

Apple will not include an Optical Drive; if anything, they'd probably remove it from their product lines.

Optical Drives are become obsolete - and Apple is a known driver of industry change. Mobile Me is the launch pad for cloud computing, soon SSD + Cloud will be the norm for storage and backup.

To the Cloud! With Apple 7.
      Wait, thats MS..

Oh, and Sandybridges?? Come on.. If Apple doesn't put in a Sandybridge's in their new Macs, they're f*ing stupid. I wouldn't buy a new PC without one.

Lots of "pro" users still need the optical drive for video editing stuff. I don't see it leaving for at least another year.

Been clenching my teeth for a proper upgrade (not just we added sum megahurtz lol) for about half a year now.

I so hope they drop the optical drive from the 13" and give an option for a real freaking GPU instead.

I'll be upgrading this year, hoping for a better processor and graphics card. (Studying film at University)

Better batteries, I don't really care for they last a long time anyway.

I'd like a blu-ray optical drive, it would be nice to watch movies on the cinema display without having to rip them on my PC first.

Also I don't want it to be as slim as the air, I like HDD.
