  • Apple Quietly Updates iMovie, Garageband Before Mac App Store Arrival

This week, on the eve of the Mac App Store's launch on Thursday, Apple very quietly updated Garageband and iMovie '11 for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard users. With the ostensible objective to tweak the stability and compatibility of the apps before the Mac App Store goes live, Apple now appears to have all its ducks in a row for Thursday's grand arrival.

With regard to Garageband 6.0.1, we have a 47.5MB download that is recommended for all iLife '11 users. The update tackles some minor issues, like losing the intermittent latency that often hinders guitar tracks, and restoring the ability to use the Quantize Note Timing menu for tracks with Groove Matching.

According to some, the fixes delivered to iMovie were of greater concern. Fortunately, those concerns now appear to have been resolved via the 27.52MB iMovie update. By all accounts, Apple has fixed a stabilization problem that primarily effected video clips from iPhones or iPod Touches. Additionally, a bug that hindered iMovie from uploading to Facebook because FB passwords had non-alphanumeric characters was also fixed.

Both updates are available now through software update or via Apple's support web site.
