  • CrApple Store Blog Takes a Bite Out of Apple

Have you ever applied for a job at the Apple Store, only to be rejected for some unknown reason? Well, if the CrApple Store blog is any indication, you may have dodged a bullet. CrApple Store is a blog dedicates to shedding light on the inner workings of the retail side Apple. The identity of the blogger is still a mystery, mainly it would seem, because they are still employed at an Apple Store in the UK.

The CrApple Store states, “It began with a list of reasons why working for Apple Retail is f***ing sh**, and just spiralled (sic) out of control. I couldn't keep it inside anymore, and so have decided to share the hate with the rest of the world.” The blog paints a very different picture from what we have come to expect from Apple. CrApple goes on to say what a soul-crushing experience it is to work for Apple and has gripes with other Apple employees such as Specialists and “the holy Genius team.” Apparently, Apple employees do not even get a discount on iPad’s either.

Overall, the CrApple Store blog is an entertaining look into the experiences of one Apple employee finding it difficult to maintain sanity in the retail world. The blog reminds me of the movie Office Space in some ways, if blogging had been around back then. The CrApple Store blog is sometime funny, often bitter, but on the whole worth checking out.

In order for you to work at Apple you have to take a douche bag test. If Apple determines that you are in fact a douche bag, then the job is yours. My brother-in-law is the biggest douche bag i know. And guess what? He is head manager of an Apple retail store. He is now lord of the douche bags. The only good thing about it is. I just made him get me a top of the line 13inch mac book air for $1600 including tax and shipping. But thats only because i buy his kids great gifts every year. It was the least he could do and it killed him to give me that discount.

I have never had a problem with any of the Apple employees in the Atlanta area, so perhaps I am lucky. Retail is a pain to do because customers tend to take out their frustrations on the staff. It's there job to find out what is really wrong and fix it, if possible. Customers don't care. 99% of the time, they want a new replacement of whatever it is they have had for 6 months. Or wait til the next version of a product comes out. Everyone knows the new models are coming but these idiots will buy the old one and then try to swap it out in a month or so for the new.

I'd he doesn't like his job, he should quit and sell vegetables on the side of the road.

Well actually this is a Apple device modding site, there's a difference. And no one can say with a straight face that Apple doesn't over hype stuff. If you've never worked for Apple I'm pretty sure you shouldn't pretend you know them better than he does.

Yes. I love apple products. I find them quite superior in most cases. I really don't use anything else. But when you work at an apple store and people trash on a fellow employee for using a Droid, which at the time, definitely had some great new things to offer, I wasn't drinking the kool aid. They'd make fun of anything that wasn't apple.

They'd talk about our superior, uncommissioned sales tactics while simultaneously trashing on employees who didn't constantly try to pile add-ons to every sale.

      They are hypocrites.

I love apple. I sometime LIVE apple. But knowing how the machine works from the inside at any level was nothing more than disappointing.

The only rewarding part about working there was teaching one-to-one which I thought was a wonderful program. Seriously life changing for some of the people we taught. Love those "wow!" moments when you show someone what their mac can do.

I admit the worst company I had ever worked for was an apple store as a specialist. All I wanted to do was inventory like I've always done for most retailers, but apple wanted to make sure I knew the "sales floor" but the starting wage was non-negotiable (8.00/hr). I took the part-time specialist without thinking, I thought I could always move up or I can always become an apple certified software/hardware guy but that dream was crushed after a month, too much to explain but to conclude I only lasted a year, but I was in the payroll for 6 more months because they wanted me to QUIT. The managers even insisted that I quit so they "can re-hire me again". I was finally laid-off by the store manager after he attempted to fire me lol, of course he also insisted I quit so he wouldn't need to pay me unemployment and so I could have a "good standing with apple", it didnt take long to fire all the assistant managers and have them replaced with 18 year olds. I could go on and on but what good is it going to do, ya still going to act obsessed over apple.

I can see that this guy is getting some real heat for trashing the holier than holy apple, but I kinda like seeing things from a different point of view... i'm kinda sick of the whole monolithic controlling theme apple has going for itself, its pseudo-big brother-esque. From my perspective this kinda opens/exposes apple a little bit bringing it back down to Earth. Walmart and other such corporations are under the impression that due to their size and influence, can do as they wish without regard for their employees that make the company what it is. Perhaps this will help force apple to lay off their guys a bit, and if not, atleast increase public awareness of their douche-baggery

good story. when hired, they put you through a rigorous training that lasts about a week, covering all parts of policy and procedure. some topics are covered in massive amounts of pages, some covered in just a mere sentence.
I worked for apple @ an apple store. One day some lady bought like 7k worth of stuff on impulse and asked me to come setup the electronics at her house (not limited to the apple products). i agreed and was paid well for a day's worth of work. Somehow, this got back to my manager and i was terminated for going out of my way for this lady. They tell me i violated company policy by performing duties outside of the workplace and by not recommending a company that had a deal with the apple store (which was never once brought to my attention). I insisted on returning the money, as i was completely unaware that i was doing wrong. They fired me anyway and showed me the ONE SENTENCE in a week's worth of training manuals covering this topic. FML and F Apple Corporate.

everyones saying "oh apple sucks cuz it treats its employees bad" apple is not a person. apple is a name of a company. its not even steve jobs whos treating anybody badly, unless he spends all his time going to the various apple stores across the world harassing people, which i highly doubt he does. no one in the upper executive levels knows what goes in the retail stores. get mad at the managers/employees for being jerks. there are people on this very post saying that theyve had wonderful experiences working in an apple store, so obviously it can go both ways, depending on the management. a company name cannot treat anybody badly, only people can.
and also, since when is hyping a product a bad thing? isnt the whole point of a business to SELL YOUR PRODUCT? any ad is a form of hyping a product. dont act like apple is the only company in the world who tries to sell things by advertising them. plus, by the sales figures, it seems to be working. lets see any of you start a company and earn 20 billion dollars in a quarter without any form of hype. its impossible.

Why are you so offended that people are criticizing apple? I don't think we all hate apple or think they're a bad company. And pointing out their success is pointless since anyone who denies apples successful business model has to be incompetent. I don't think any of us are saying that apple hasn't been successful.

It's possible to be successful and still have points in need of criticism.

My grandfather was a nice guy, fought in WWII, raised a family when his wife died young, was always financially stable, but he never did anything for me and never spent any time with me. So because he was a good and successful person doesn't negate the fact that he never spent time with his grandson.

Apple, as an innovative and successful company is not immune to imperfection and critique.

ya of course nothings perfect im not saying apple is perfect. people just throw out pointless criticism like "oh apple hypes its products too much" what company doesnt hype its product? and judging a company because of some bad managers across the world is stupid, its not like steve jobs himself runs every single apple store. i for sure think there are some things apple could improve upon, they definitely have some control freak aspects, but the complaints from commenters on here are just ridiculous. maybe i did get a little angry, but ive read a lot of comments on many tech sites, and i just hate when people spew the most pointless crap. and being an apple centric site, i dont know why anybody who hates apple would be on here in the first place. sorry if i seemed overly frustrated.

if people give valid criticism, by all means ill leave it be, or give my own counter argument in a more friendly way.

i think his point to the whole apple is a success wasn't to say that they don't need criticism. It was about people complaining about apple hyping it's products to sell, and how stupid of a complaint that is when you can't get the success apple has without hyping your products.

Also his whole post was about the fact of people in posts and in crapple blog are saying apple treats its employers wrong when it's not apple it's the managers they work for. Any job you have can have those managers that's the whole point of what he was saying.

Fair enough. For clarification, earlier I mentioned apples hype and I mostly was referring to the fake employee koolaid drinking brainwashing hype I personally experienced at my apple store before I quit. Like, seriously. People were shunned for using something that wasn't apple and they would mindlessly argue against products they knew nothing about. It was like reading the MacDailyNews take.

wow thats so stupid of them. see its just stuff like that, spewing out hate not backed by anything, that frustrates me. what if that person with a droid just had to be on verizon because at&t didn't cover his area? (a very possible situation btw )

Please speak for yourself. At least here in the Netherlands, I see no "clusterfuck". I just bought a laptop for ~1500$ (calculated eur->usd) and nothing wrong. I wprk in a shoe store and everyone is happily walking out of the store with their new Nikes, only to return after a week to buy even newer ones. And these are just examples from the top of my head! No clusterfuck to be found here.
