  • More Talk of December 9th Apple Media Event

Tuesday morning brings with it accelerated talk of a possible Apple media event on or around December 9th. Despite initial thoughts that the event would be used to introduced a new or refreshed product, all indications suggest an Apple media event that, strangely, will be all about the media. With talk that News Corp titan Rupert Murdoch will share the stage with Steve Jobs at the press gathering, it's becoming an increasingly safe bet that the early December event will emphasize a new content subscription development regarding the iPad.

Since the tablet's introduction, Murdoch has purportedly been on the short list of incredibly powerful media moguls obsessed with the iPad and its potential for reviving the dying publishing business. Consequently, months of speculation have swirled around Murdoch and his supposed plans to give a new beginning to newspapers and magazines via Apple's enormously popular iPad. Given the massive ebook sales and major newspaper content distribution prompted by mobile devices just this year, the media-savvy Murdoch surely sees an even bigger goldmine in the wings than do the rest of us.

Yesterday, John Gruber of Daring Fireball indicated that he has heard serious talk of the December 9th date for Apple's next event. "My understanding, based on information from sources not at Apple, is that this is not something like iBooks -- there is no central 'iNews' or 'Newsstand' app from Apple," Gruber says. "Rather, it's a new subscription billing option for apps -- true recurring submissions -- paid through your iTunes account." Both before and after Gruber's account, however, talk from other news sources reveals a similar plan by the folks at Apple and News Corp.

The official announcement of an approximate December 9th media event may come as early as this week.

Digital print is going to become the norm so I hope it isn't another let down like the Beatles announcement.

I've strayed away from most news agencies in the past years due to nothing but "negativity in the news." If they unveil a slick Digi-paper, i'd consider buying an iPad for this reason. 10 digi-papers to flip thru on the MBTA would be nice. Even if I have to carry a piston on the subway! =]

Ugh, don't use Gruber as a source. That guy is horrible.

I do hope this is about subscriptions. I would love to use the Wired, Time, Popular Mechanics, etc. apps on a regular basis. I love the quality and interactive capabilities of the app-based issues as opposed to what is offered on Zinio, but I hate that you have to pay cover price for every single issue.

If Rupert Murdoch gets in I'm out. The word evil gets thrown around too much these days, but this man is truly a horrible person and his citizenship should be revoked.

What about the MacBook Pros? I want to buy the 13.3" model but i'm afraid it gets updated soon. I've just checked macrumor's buy guide and they point out for a new update soon. What do you think? Will there be any Apple event about this?!

      My thoughts exactly!

I see Stealth's house being like a high tech modern version of how rednecks put their new tv on top of their old tv, except Stealth's computer desk is just made up of perfectly fine, working MacBooks that are just "outdated" stacked upon one and other.

No his outdated macbooks are built into the walls around the house and used as digital picture frames.
