  • SlideAway: Android-Inspired Lockscreen

When it comes to theming and tweaking, the lockscreen is up there as being one of the most themed parts of any iDevice ever. There are many varieties, features, and the like that make them intriguing to buy or install. Below I'd like to showcase to you new upcoming tweak for your lockscreen: SlideAway. It's a creation of Filippo Bigarella (@filippobiga) and adds some awesome features to the lockscreen. It hasn't been released yet however it should be in the coming weeks/months.

From past interviews and chatting sessions with Filippo, I think we've developed into great friends and I really appreciate all the work that he's done for the jailbreak community. Some of his work is listed below:

    • Springtomize
    • NowPlaying for Tweetbot
    • Pastiebot for Tweetbot
    • TweetbotRotator
    • FreeSync
    • CleverPin

Because of this relationship, I was able to beta test SlideAway and have the opportunity to elaborate on some of the cool aspects of it.

SlideAway, as mentioned above, is a Mobile Substrate addon that implements an Android-like lockscreen feature. As you can see from the picture above, it has a bar with two icons (in my case the phone and messages) which when clicked, bring you right to that application.

The term "slide" doesn't go unmentioned as swipe gestures play a key role in this tweak. When you slide up on the bar, it brings you a screen with a brightness adjuster and an image of your dock. The dock image allows you to click on the icons shown to go right into the application. When you slide down, if you have a passcode enabled, it brings up to passcode screen to unlock your iDevice.

Within the SlideAway menu in Settings, you can adjust the duration animation of the slide gestures and change which buttons appear on the bar. But the cherry on this cake is that SlideAway will be themeable!

Obviously as it's in the beta stages, there are still a few kinks to fix here and there but overall it's absolutely amazing. I asked a few questions of Filippo about SlideAway and his plans with it.

JOSH: What inspired you to create SlideAway?
FILIPPO: A friend of mine, known as dena994, is an Android theme designer and really got me going on designing SlideAway.

JOSH: What has dena994's involvement been in the project?
FILIPPO: He did all the graphic related parts and I did the coding side.

JOSH: When are you expecting to release SlideAway?
FILIPPO: Hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

JOSH: What other features are you planning on implementing into SlideAway?
FILIPPO: Not sure yet, any suggestions?

You heard the man, he's in need of some feedback! Post back here what you'd suggest and I'm sure he'd be delighted to try as many as he can or that is physically possible. Please follow Filippo on Twitter (@filippobiga) and keep up to date on all his work, especially SlideAway.

Just a head's up, he is from Italy so his time zone is much different than ours (I'm assuming you're in the U.S. somewhere).

Thanks Joshua for the post and you all for the positive comments. I would like to specify a few things:
      - you can choose which app every bar button opens (Phone, Camera, Contacts, Mail, Safari, SMS and iPod/Music)
      - everything is theme-able: from the bar to the buttons to the battery notifications.
      - battery notifications allows you to see if you have unread mail/texts/ missed calls just looking at the battery, that will be replaced by those images. Again, you can theme them.
      - it supports biteSMS: if you have biteSMS installed, the SMS icon on the bar will open directly the biteSMS app, instead of the original SMS app.

That's all! Thanks again. If you have any question or suggestion about SlideAway, feel free to contact me on Twitter or reply here.

Yeah, good luck buddy. I've stripped my iPhone 4 down to just a few tweaks (Activater, Mewseek, My3G, iFile, SMD, Remove BackGround, Voiceactivator, and some themes for winterboard) got tired of rebooting and uninstalling. By the way disabling tweaks in MobileSubstrate through SBSettings does not work.

Still getting the safemode. There are several people having issues (Search twitter for @filippobiga) and you will see. Until someone knows good luck getting one of the most anticipated tweaks to work

I must have gotten lucky, the only issue I had was the dock function didn't work with Move2Unlock. Everything seems good now. Hopefully he can come out with an update soon because this is really a useful tweak.

Wasted 3 dollars. Stripped my phone to the bone trying to get it to work. Safe mode every time. I'm running 4.2.1. But I bet his computer works to collect his money.

I read it was an issue with 4.2.1 and that an update was submitted. Hopefully it helps. I stopped my phone down to nothing as well.
