  • Apple: No Preinstalled Flash on Macs

    On Friday, Apple issued an official statement regarding the issue of preinstalled Adobe Flash on the freshly unveiled MacBook Air.

    According to Apple, Flash will not come preinstalled on Macs as a way to best ensure that users will not be deprived of the latest version of Flash. Instead, Mac users are encouraged to download the latest from Adobe. Similarly, all future Macs will come without Adobe Flash pre-installed. Apple spokesman Bill Evans reportedly stated the following to Engadget:

    "We're happy to continue to support Flash on the Mac, and the best way for users to always have the most up to date and secure version is to download it directly from Adobe."
    Despite the rocky relationship between Apple and Adobe, the two seem destined to co-exist (peacefully or otherwise) for the time being. The fresh headlines speaking to the role of Flash on Macs comes after many biting comments from Steve Jobs, not the least of which was the claim that Flash is the primary culprit of crashes on the Mac.

      That's not a bad excuse.

      Let's be honest this is for they're battery benchmarks so they can claim 5 hours of web browsing just cause there's no flash

      That'd be a good response.

      The only reason why this became a so-called "news" article is b/c of Jobs' stance on Flash in general. HOWEVER on the PC/Mac side, this is not uncommon at all. Many PC manufacturers do not include the Adobe Flash plug-in on their desktops or notebooks. The users all have to go to Adobe.com to download the plug-in themselves.

      Who gives a damn about being first? Ignore List of Stupidity, you have another user coming.

      This isn't a bad excuse. Flash needs to be fixed so it doesn't crash Macs.

      Post that say "first" are annoying and take up space with a useless comment.

      Apples excuse for not preinstalling flash is actually a good one this time.

      Yeah, because the internet is running out of space so fast. Its dumb and pointless but just as much so to get irritated by it. Attention whores love attention; both good and bad so you're feeding his addiction.

      And this isn't a good excuse. If they're worried about updates, just bundle it in their autoupdate system. Its another dig at flash while trying to avoid it looking like more feuding.

      ok, this isnt THAT big a deal. I didn't realize it came preinstalled anyway (I somehow remember always having to download it whenever I got a new computer or upgrade). Its also a perfectly viable explanation. I just wish apple would let it go on the iphone already!

      What annoys me more than the "first" posters is the automatic list of people whining about that ONE POST. It's the same members time and time again that ***** about it and end up making the threads much longer bc of their complaining than the person are pointing the finger at.

      ~~~~~~
      Is Flash preinstalled on PCs? I haven't had a new one or had to reinstall XP in ages so I may be wrong, but I recall always having to install it on them as well.
      Definitely not on XP. I have to agree with that first part too. BTW, I know you said something about not being able to find WiBlaze in Cydia earlier. Trust me, you do NOT want it on iOS 4. It is permanently zoomed in and runs slow.
      Nothing shows someone you're serious more than drastic, childish, and butthurt behavior. Flash isn't the massive deal that he makes it out to be, this is stupid posturing and saving face after making some pretty hypocritical statements. It's not automatically installed on PCs either, so the only reason this is 'newsworthy' is because the megalomaniac we all know and loves had a tantrum. So what? Something that would be newsworthy is that Apple doesn't allow Flash to be installed on a computer they make.
      You're missing the point--Flash was ALWAYS preinstalled on ALL Macs, ALWAYS. Now, they just did that exact opposite.
