  • Apple Drops iOS 4.3.3 to End Location Database and Tracking Controversy

Although some believed it would take considerably longer for Apple to ready iOS 4.3.3, on Wednesday the iOS update arrived and it promises to correct the location tracking and data storage bug that sparked concern and controversy last month when the potential privacy threat was discovered.

As promised, Apple says the aforementioned update alters the iOS crowd-sourced location database cache. All told, iOS 4.3.3:
    • Reduces the size of the cache
    • No longer backs up the cache to iTunes
    • Deletes the cache entirely when Location Services is turned off.
The iOS 4.3.3 update, which is available now via iTunes, is for the GSM-based iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, and 3rd and 4th generation iPod touch. Apple is also making availble iOS 4.2.8 for the Verizon CDMA iPhone 4.

Late last week, Apple said that providing mobile users with fast and accurate location information while preserving their security and privacy "has raised some very complex technical issues which are hard to communicate in a soundbite." Instead, they will be addressed by iOS 4.3.3. Today, Apple has addressed said issues.

All I care about is battery life, does anyone know if there is any improvements or was just to fix the location tracking?

      I agree.

Aliens in stryofoam vests are more likely to have something to do with the unpatched exploit than the apple dev team. Me, I am actually assuming it was undead Soviet political prisoners with muffins clogged in the machine guns that tampered with the exploit.

The update only takes like 30 seconds to download as it is.

No Apple will not be patching lower versions. Also the 3G and the 2G still have Safari security issues that are not patched and several other security items unpatched because Apple has stopped service. Apple only agreed to take care of those devices for a year as for the warranty but after that point they can give up support at any moment.

Can someone show me anywhere in any of the forms for iPhones that Apple has to continue care for the life of it?

There is already a tethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.3 using redsn0w but like I said is tethered but comex already conformed that the explit from i0nic hasn't been patched on 4.3.3 good news although I'm stil on 4.1 lol

You can use the latest redsnow (rc14) and point it to a 4.3.2 FW. I did it, but it does need to be booted tethered to use cydia.

As I just updated to 4.3.2 over the weekend with so much trouble there is no way I'm going to update again so soon.

I used the version spoof trick and it works so I wont need or be asked to update till the next version comes out.
I guess nothing new has been added from 4.3.2 so all the up and coming apps will still work.

So I gotta choose weather to do the tethered jb or not.

Do we know roughly how long it will be before an untethered jb comes out?
