  • iOS Update Imminent? Back Up Your SHSH Blobs Anyway...

[UPDATE: the rumors were right and iOS 4.0.2/3.2.2 are out there. Jailbreakers DO NOT UPGRADE.]

Unsubstantiated rumors are flying around the interwebs about iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 3.2.2 updates to be released within hours that will close the PDF hole and root escalation bug that made jailbreakMe possible. No idea if it's true, but we know that Apple claims to have an upgrade in the pipeline, and no less of a personage than the Dev-Team's @cpich3g hints that it's about to drop, so better safe than sorry.

Obviously, if you're prompted to update firmware, don't do it. But to avoid any possibility of losing your jailbreak and apps, back up your SHSH blobs now if you haven't already done so, before the saving window closes.

If it is a 3GS or iPhone 4 then no. You would need the SHSHs saved but since you will just be buying it then you can't get them.

Look it up on google. It's a very easy process! Just plug & hit the button.

Well by the description that iTunes gives of the update it says it only fixes the PDF whole... The only thing I want fixed is the damn proximity sensor!!!! I'm tired of hanging up on people and muting them!!!

So no point in me buying phone then. Guess this means jailbreaking coming to an end.

your the idiot, do you think apple cant just go to JailbreakMe and jailbreak a phone by themselves and figure out the exploit used and patch it? it had nothing to do with people going into the apple stores and jailbreaking the display phones. the jailbreak is open to the public

You could now. There will most likey be a jailbreak out around 4.1. But getting the phone early you can have the phone before the next item is patched. The people that bought it day 1 and waited are able to downgrade if they want back to 4.0 since they have the SHSH saved.

So I'm assuming now that 4.0.2 is out, a device "Pending TSS" on Cydia won't ever show as received correct? Since I used TinyUmbrella though I guess it doesn't really matter as I have it on my pc. It did say "Success" on both pc and Cydia, so I guess it's on their server? Thanks for all the helpful comments and links!

Oh and for newbies like me, using TinyUmbrella took like 5 minutes.

I'm considering canceling my order, since mine isn't due to ship until the 24th. Perhaps those in this thread who have devices on order could let us know if their devices ship with 4.0.2 when they get them?

I just don't understand why all of the sudden people are ready to jump ship!

      Just an example:

When 3gs came out and it had 3.0 and there was not jailbreak for it!

      Then they was!

Then it went to 3.1, then 3.12 then 3.13 then OMG 4.0

Then there was the Iphone 4 and no jailbreak

      Then there was!

I personally think that there will be if not already a jailbreak for 4.1 but if there is not and jailbreaking is over I can say I had a good ride!

But I can't swim so I am not jumping ship!

There has never been a guarantee but the jailbreaker's have always come through and I think they will this time, but still no guarantee!

so here is my next question: if my SHSH's are saved and I want to restore to 4.0.1, do i need to do anything besides hit ****-restore and manually select 4.0.1? do the SHSH just automatically do what they do? im not too familiar with how the SHSH work

I have been trying to get someone to answer this for a week as the process for restoring a 3gs did not work for me on my Iphone 4 and unless there has been a change to the proceedure that I don't know about!

I have been trying to go from 4.0.1 back to 4.0 on my Iphone 4 because after jailbraking it I get random rebooting!

      Please someone answer this!

NO. If your SHSH is saved to Cydia, you need to edit your hosts file to point gs.apple.com at Cydia's IP (which I can't remember but you can Google). If it's stored locally, you need to run tinyTSS and give it the path to your SHSH file (i.e. "tinytss -f *filepath*"...read the readme if you don't know what to do) and edit your hosts file to route gs.apple.com to localhost (127.0.0.1).

THEN do shift-restore, which should now work.

Been there done that and didn't work on my iPhone 4!

With the exception of the tinytss will check that out!

      Thanks

Ok. Now... When will MMI updated their broken link in cydia. Talk about annoying to get the broken/missing link everytime I login.
