  • Apple Still Trying to Curb In-Store Jailbreaking Phenomenon

Almost everyone I know wants to jailbreak an iDevice. But there's a catch. Since they've already jailbroken their own iPhones, iPods, and iPads, they would prefer to try something a bit more daring. You know, like jailbreaking a display device inside of an Apple store. Apparently, a lot of folks in our community want the thrill of doing just that. And Apple is aware of it.

Understandably, Apple isn't fond of folks like us jailbreaking iPhones and such inside of Apple retail stores. As a result, Apple has effectively blocked Jailbreakme.com from being accessed at the company's retail outlets over its available WiFi networks. Not surprisingly, Apple is anything but a big fan of jailbreakme.com, a one-stop browser-based jailbreak shop for all iOS devices that fully exploits a PDF security hole in the Mobile Safari browser. Apple, however, said this week that its fixin' to serve up a fix for this PDF exploit that will be available via a future iOS update.

Reports of Apple blocking the jailbreak site first surfaced late in the week and, in all actuality, didn't necessarily come as a big shocker to anyone, although there were scant indications that some customers could still access the site at Apple locations as of Saturday morning. Today, however, I endeavored to access the site at my nearest Apple store (I'm lucky they still let me in) and was promptly prohibited from doing just that. Looks like I won't have my own YouTube video (like everyone else does) of me jailbreaking an iPhone inside the Apple Store. And I was really hoping to show the grandchildren one day. Oh well. But at least some have the distinct honor of being among the few (and proud) who actually managed to jailbreak a floor model iDevice.

If this becomes a problem, Apple, the multi billion dollar corporation will see to it that it is extremely more difficult to jailbreak in the future and will invest $ to make sure its so. Jailbreaking won't be impossible, but the very easy "slide to jailbreak" will be a thing of the past. Get ready for a USB only jailbreak in the future boys and girls.
I hate to break it to you bud but as soon as the update comes out "slide to jailbreak" as you call it will be a thing of the past regardless. So it doesn't matter if these people make it their personal mission to jailbreak every unowned idevice on the planet or not. Stop whining. We hear enough of it. And I know it's not just you. But come on.

What do you think they already do with every firmware update?

I jailbroke 3 iPhone 4's and all the iPads at the Roosevelt Field Mall Apple Store in NY.

Some employee's were hassling me and I made a case out of it had a printed copy of the DMCA ruling and asked for the supervisor and told him he can not tell me to stop.

Same as someone checking e-mail on the floor model device, jailbreaking is legal as checking e-mail and he backed off!

I am sure they restored though.....

Easy to jailbreak in the Apple store. Disable WiFi and then you're in! I did it. This is hardly what I would call a shenanigan. The idea of it is funny, but it was sort of lame. I do wonder how long it'll take the Apple store employees to figure out that the handset has been jailbroken.

Legal yes...on your OWN device. Kind of like somebody coming into your house and modding your stuff.

And yes, I know I did it. But I claim moral high ground because I saved SHSHs for the device in order to benefit somebody down the road.

This is dumb. If people want to jailbreak their iDevice's, great... dont jailbreak Apple's though. It's no wonder Apple hates jailbreakers... people like this are giving it a bad rep. Imagine if someone walked into ur house and restored your iphone back to its factory settings. That would SUCK. Just think before you do dumb things.

Jailbreaking it doesnt really hurt it. It just adds another icon to the home screen. The idiots who install winterboard and stuff are the ones this applies to.

You honestly have no life. If you do it to one phone just for the hell of it then fine I guess. But to go so far to bring a printed copy of a ruling that let's you jailbreak it? Lmfao dude it's so YOU can jailbreak YOUR phone, Apple stores own those phones on display, they CAN stop you from messing with their property like that. Honestly take a good hard look in the mirror and say to yourself, iPhone is NOT my life.

Obviously I'm the child here cussing online and telling others they are children. So when you go out shopping you keep a copy of the DMCA ruling on your person all the time? If you don't really care what I think then why did you post a response with so much cussing? People like you need a reality check.

no problem, no i havent been able to make it to a apple/at&t store because how far they are

but if you google free socks5 servers and write down a working servers ip, and try it im pretty sure it will work.

there is one way i could think of apple still blocking it but, having web filters at every location could cause problems so, im
still pretty certain that a socks5 proxy server will work

heres why socks5 works at level5 of the osi meaning the season
and all web proxys such as hidemyass.com work at the application layer (layer 7) of the OSI

for more information about the OSI layer go here OSI Model and Communication Between Systems

p.s osi has nothing to do with apple in particular its part of networking

Was at Apple today, but it didn't cross my mind. I was more interested in trying to find a 16gb in stock...which they didn't have.
