  • Apple 3Q Earnings Obliterate Estimates

Apple may have even surprised Apple with the company's reported 3rd quarter revenue announced Tuesday after the close of trading on Wall Street. Blowing consensus estimates out of the water, Apple beat the street (which had forecast 3Q earnings of $14.75 billion) by posting earnings totaling $15.74 billion.

    From CNBC:
Apple easily topped analysts' expectations in its fiscal third quarter and gave a better-than-expected sales forecast, pushing the company's stock higher in extended trading Tuesday.
Even Apple's guidance is worth noting with Q4 Revenue guidance at $18 billion vs. $17.03 Street consensus. Q4 EPS guidance is $3.44 vs. $3.82 Street consensus. Apple revealed today, as expected, stellar sales across its vast iDevice product line. During the quarter that ended June 30th, Apple shipped 3.27 million iPads, 3.47 million Macs, and 9.4 million iPods. Q3 iPhone shipments, however, came in at 8.4 million - slightly below consensus estimates.

With regard to the controversy and customer fallout in the wake of "Antennagate," Apple largely seems unaffected by the recent wave of negative press and consumer criticisms. Looking ahead to the next quarter, Apple is presently forecasting $18 billion in revenue and $3.44 EPS. That's a pretty bold and confident prediction, especially coming from a company that is known for presenting very, very tentative if not absurdly conservative estimates in order to blast them to bits when the cold hard data finally rolls in.

Shares of Apple exploded 4% in after-hours trading as soon as Cupertino announced the long-awaited 3Q earnings.

A simple stroll through Apple's filings will reveal that Apple's 3rd quarter ended June 26, just 2 days after the iPhone4's official release. Any idiot can easily see why Apple's 3rd quarter was completely unaffected by "Antennagate".

Wait until they release their financials for the 2010 fiscal year, which ends September 26. If they are to be affected by this mess, that is where it will be reflected.

Last time I checked we live in a FREE CHOICE Capitalistic country. Apple isn't worth a quarter of Bill Gates, get over yourselves and your greed comments. Please. You come up with an idea, sell it, have people love your product then charge for it, pay millions if not billions in taxes, then call yourself greedy.

If you you have a successful
Product than you will make money. Crapy product poor business model and possible in a socialistic company than you can bet apple wouldn't make as much. Thank god we live in a country that allows people to
Prosper from their hard work and ideas.

I am curious as to why my post to your quote was deleted. Was it I that pushed a button?

Apple just don't make junk to sell and make money. They create innovative products, things they think people would love to have. Why are they different? Because they don't sell stuff to fill a market place, they create their own market place. They totally believe in their stuff and that rubs off on their customers, thats why they become devotees. MS sell a product to largest platform base in the world, but they don't believe in their product the same way, ie: Vista. That was a product to fill a perceived void in their OS gap. I still know heaps of IT developers that never touched it. But MS up until recently was the largest grossing IT business in history. The tiara is slipping. THIS is why people who aren't devotees of Apple, hate them. Ford v GM type rivalry. And to that "person" who said it was wrong for Apple to make this kind of money, REALLY DUDE?? Bill Gates made more than most small countries put together, and his charities spread the wealth a little. Jobs does the same. Would you expect BP & Exon to have the same kind of charitable heart? IT companies like Apple & MS aren't evil like oil companies or arms dealers, so get off their backs.

It is called the Fiscal Year. They go by a 12 month period not by a calandar year. Most companies and countries differ but here is an example of the US government fiscal year schedule.

      1st Quarter: October 1, 2009 - December 31, 2009
      2nd Quarter: January 1, 2010 - March 31, 2010
      3rd Quarter: April 1, 2010 - June 30, 2010
      4th Quarter: July 1, 2010 - September 30, 2010

I think it's because there is alot that is missed thru translation(so to speak) in these blogs. It's not easy expressing intentions or meaning in these forums. I responded to your post as well. However after reading it again I understood it a little better. Of course my interpretation could be wrong or muddled as well.
