  • iOS 4.0.1 and iPad 3.2.1 Now Live - DO NOT UPDATE

iOS 4.0.1 and iPad 3.2.1 have just been released! For your own good, DO NOT UPDATE!!! if you require jailbreak or unlock!

It looks like reports are coming in that this is actually the 4.1 Beta we saw last night... not sure why it would roll out so quick, but I'm not buying it just yet. The baseband isn't even updated, so it can't be entirely 4.1b.

Comex has confirmed there is NO baseband update in 4.0.1. You can update if you wish, but really there is no point unless you have an iPhone 4 and want these new "bigger bars". Either way, just don't do it.

Planetbeing also recommends staying away, but if you missed your SHSH blob backup, you can do so on 4.0.1, as there is no baseband update.

Is there any real point of having 4.0.1 shsh blobs backed up. In other words, should i update for this reason only?

Three things regarding this 4.0.1 update (please read carefully as you may misunderstand if you do not read this post in its entirety.)

      1) For everyone posting things like "ZOMG I only have 3 bars now on this update"; bars mean nothing, it isn't a scientific unit of measurement, unless you have a way of converting them into decibels, then it can mean something. However every manufacturer converts decibels to "bars" differently; even the same manufacturer (Apple) has chosen to display bars differently on the same device as seen in this update. Worry more about if your calls are dropping or data download/upload speed is reduced rather than comparing bars.

2)If you installed the 4.0.1 update and you now have less "bars", THIS DOES NOT MEAN that you are getting poorer reception that you were before the update!. (Please read the previous sentence again before continuing.), the signal strength is the same as before, but being translated into "bars" using a different "formula" as Apple called it. Don't complain about having less bars now, because bar comparison between 4.0 and 4.0.1 does not translate.

3)So you may be saying to yourself, "What does cbutters know? maybe apple did a software adjustment to the antenna and it IS because of 4.0.1 that my signal is now the SUXORS...... GRRR I need my bars.... waaaah!" If you are saying this to yourself just relax... The reason I know that there is no way that there is any difference in your pre 4.0.1 actual signal strength and 4.0.1 signal strength is the fact that 4.0.1 does NOT include a baseband update. The baseband is the software that controls the radio on the phone, not the firmware. An update to the firmware is NOT going to affect the radios reception.

Hey Stealth, I have 4.0 on my i4 so I'm assuming if I successfully got the 4.0 blobs not the 4.1 in tiny umbrella?

I noticed your using osx. I have 3 macs but it worked on my windows machine.

Here is something interesting.... I am new to the iphone scene, so maybe the news is old.. correct me if I am wrong. I have my 4.0 blobs saved with tinyumbrella. I also have 3.1.3 saved. I wanted to downgrade to 3.1.3 using tiny umbrella, which I couldnt for some reason, coz I got an error 3002. My phone was still in the DFU mode (not recovery) and I hit the restore button on itunes(expecting to restore and update to 4.0.1)... But surprisingly, the download started on the downloads page on itunes and it did not apply the 4.0.1 directly to the phone, which has never happened before while downgrading..... is this normal? also the software update shows 380 something MB unlike the 580 reported by someone earlier.....
      What's going on here???

You sure sound like a looser who has no friends.

I bet you are one of the whiney people following the Dev-team on Twitter asking 50 times a day " when are you going to release a jailbreak"

Is anyone having issues with updating to 4.0.1? I have not JB the iPhone 4 or anything. iTunes even refuses to restore the phone!! Damn it! Whats going on?

My sister and I both have the same issues when viewing the text message conversations and while in our mail inbox. When you use a slide in gesture, like you would using Activator from the top of the screen (near the clock) and move your finger down starting without being on the touch screen then moving your finger down on the touch screen, it activates the "back" for the mail inbox, and it toggles the edit/done in the messages app. Anyone else notice this and was it fixed in 4.0.1?

That I don't have an answer for. Your signal strength could be going on the fritz at that moment, I'm not sure. But all I have to go off of is that Apple said that you might be getting up to two bars more than you were supposed to, I get fluctuations on my MicroCell where I didn't before. It even drops when I have a door or a wall in between me and the Microcell so I'm guessing it's more accurate. Why yours dropped so far I don't know.

I updated. Now with my ifrogz case it doesnt drop bars. It hovers between 3 and 4 all the time. Now without the case it drops down to 1 and stays on 3g.

It is because they don't do incremental updates; they force install the whole OS.

Hey guys, I didn't read the whole thread, as it went the usual way I expect these threads to go, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I backed up my SHSH's with TinyUmbrella successfully about an hour ago. Granted, I am relatively knew and may have missed something, but the program confirmed everything. Thought that might help.
