  • iOS 4.1 Beta Now Available To Developers

Could this be it? The infamous iOS 4.1 update?! You bet it is! Now available through Apple's Developer Center, iOS 4.1 Beta is available for download. This is news we have all been anticipating for some time now, but the question here is, what exactly are we getting in iOS 4.1? Will our antenna issues be solved, or will they simply be "masked"?

The releases notes don't go into detail about any fixes, however they do state that support for the iOS 4 preview version of Game Center will be phased out soon. There is some discussion about renaming some files, and some string changes, but nothing extremely interesting.

UPDATE: Reports of users experiencing no change in signal quality for those that have been having the "death grip" problem.

UPDATE: It appears that the iOS 4.1 update includes the signal bar changes that Apple had promised that "will adjust how signal strength bars are calculated and displayed." This includes making the bars larger than they were before so it's easier to identify the signal strength

The change will adopt a recently recommended formula from AT&T that will more accurately display actual signal strength at any given time. The update will also increase the size of the smaller bars (1, 2, and 3) to make them easier to see.
As expected, the modem firmware has also now been updated to 02.07.01. This means: JAILBREAKERS AND UNLOCKERS NEED TO STAY AWAY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! Remember all that hard work planetbeing just showed us? Do yourself a favor and do not update yet, so that you too may utilize the unlock method he has found in the future.

What might be particularly exciting to most of our readers, is that this release, once public, could mean that our next Jailbreak Tool will be unleashed upon us all. However, I wouldn't get too excited yet, this is just the SDK Beta. Once this baby goes public, keep your eyes peeled for an iOS 4.0 Jailbreak. So that means, REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR SHSH BLOBS!

I doubt we will see a 4.0.1. I recon this will be in beta for a week or so and then this will go public meeting the 2-3 week timeframe they mentioned.

They are not going to delay the release of this due to the jailbreak. To stop a few from jailbreaking but annoy most and cause the PR nightmare to continue or just release it when they can. Not a hard call IMO (what fraciton of ALL iPhone owners actually jailbreak)

I hope that 4.1 includes quickreply. Really missing that, even with multitasking.

We probably won't see 4.1 until September though when the new iPods are announced.

Funny posts. Not surprisingly if there was issues most would be.. Why did they rush it and why didn't they release it to the devs? Still complaints no one can do anything right.

Reports say NOPE -> Nothing has been fixed, except the formula to display bars.. and the deathgrip is still present for those who have the issue after the update was applied.

      Apple fails again.

This is in my office in the middle of my city, where I usually always have 5.

I will report back later when I get home. Usually deathgripping it from my house, makes me lose all my bars and makes me drop the call if I am on it.
Well, I am home now. I am still consistantely getting 3 bars, 2 with the deathgrip. Still dropping call on a deathgrip...

Maybe Apple is trying to point the finger at AT&T.

Yes people you DO have to store your SHSH and YES it must be done NOW BEFORE 4.1 is officially released.
just go to The Firmware Umbrella: TinyUmbrella - Unified TinyTSS and The Firmware Umbrella in ONE!
and run the program. Save your SHSH. Only needed for 3gs and iphone 4.

I just update my 3GS to 4.1 and i hate how the bars look and i also hate that i am only getting 3 bars and sometimes it jumps to 4 bars and here at my house i get 5 bars all time full signal and now i am only getting 3 bars. Let's say beta 2 4.1 coming soon. Good thing i did not update my iphone 4 for that software that just killed my signal bars.

      THE ONLY GOOD NEWS
I did a speed test on two bars and got some good results and i also started surfing different websites and they actually loaded pretty fast on only two bars.

im glad you had good results!
my point of view is that if this formula is really accurate like they say its better for all of us, i mean i wouldnt want my phone showing 5 bars when it should only have 2

Don't know if somebody already mention it, but today (or tomorrow, i don't know which day it already is in the USA, because i'm living in the Netherlands) Apple is gonna release iOS 4.0.1 at 7pm (+1 GMT zone)

This means (if i'm right), that the JB is gonna be released soon....

Check the actual versions of iOS on the apple servers over here: iOS Firmware
