  • Microsoft to iOS Developers: Come Here My Sweet

Earlier this week Microsoft announced an API Mapping tool help iPhone/iOS developers "find their way when they discover the Windows Phone platform."

The API Mapping tool acts as a translation device for iOS developers unfamiliar with Windows Phone 7 coding language. The mapping tool does this by allowing iOS developers to pick out the iOS API calls and quickly look up "equivalent classes, methods and notification events in WP7."

The mapping tool as of now only includes translations for Network/Internet, User Interface, and Data Management related programs. Audio/Video, Graphics/Animation, Performance, and Security related API translations will be added at a later time.

It's important to note this tool is just a starting point for developers to learn about the WP7 platform and by no means will include a translation of all API's between the platforms.

This mapping tool seems to be a very blatant attempt by Microsoft to encourage the porting and migration of apps and developers from the iOS platform to the WP7 platform. This is great news for developers looking to expand to other platforms and shows how far ahead Apple is in terms of market share in the mobile computing world. WP7 is a vastly improved mobile OS (compared to previous Windows offerings), but Microsoft continues to neglect their products. WP7 hasn't seen any major updates since its release (the first one was a beautiful train wreck of a mess).

All problems aside, this little tool and Microsofts partnership with Nokia looks to help WP7 recruit more potential developers. More competition in the mobile market means we'll only see more innovation on everyones part. Hopefully.

In the pc department, I'm about a week into windows 8, and it's pretty sweet to (for a beta).
I played with HTC HD2 that is the closest i got to windows phone. I like Android and iOS.

Microsoft developers is the reason why technology has advanced thus far. You Apple fanbois are clueless.

Back to topic...I would love for Apple to release an API that would convert to C# or VB.NET to native iOS binary code. The possibilities of that OS would be endless

Yes sir. Build 7955. Ran it in a vm first. Then installed it, replacing my win7 ultimate.

Hoping I'm not breaking any rules here, but it's available on demonoid, and tpb. You need to grab bluepoison to unlock all of the features (not a terribly original name, but hey).

Why? Whats wrong with it? There people who like it.

Although these people are over 50 and want to push the "Any Key"

But some people like K.I.S.S. In products.

I like that my phone has many funtions and is more powerful then a computer in the early 21st century.

But there are many born before 1965 still who have no idea how to install a program or use Microsoft word still.

A windows phone is perfect for em!

Yeah it's not on their site. It's a leaked copy given to manufacturers and devs.

Why on earth would you want to run a leaked beta?

Beta testing without support is lunacy - why do people do it?

I ran a leaked beta of win7 for 6 months without a single issue. There's plenty of support for leaked betas. You just have to know where to look.

This is MS way to get on even grounds.
Apple's biggest advantage is there are so many apps for iPhone, if MS is able to get all those apps appear on Windows then whats left is OS and hardware.

During that 6 months Microsoft we giving me first class support, I have rarely had a beta supported so well, MS have not officially released Win 8 to external Beta testers yet and any 'support' you are getting is not from them,

I will wait until MS offer it to me and will give me proper support. Using unsupported betas is a mugs game.

I never said I was getting support from Microsoft. I'm n or sure what a mugs game is so I don't know how to respond to that.

I don't understand why people would instal beta software if not to give feedback to the author to make it better.
What's the point of installing software that's not ready?

Oh I don't know, to try it out maybe? Why do Apple fan boys quickly jump at any criticism they can make for what a PC user does with their machine?

If you don't see the purpose behind trying beta software, then why do you have an iPad or iPhone? Because you WANT one?

Beta software gives you an insider look behind what's coming in the future and Microsoft releases betas "unofficially" on purpose. Why? Because unlike Apple, Microsoft gives a crap what we think about it's future software and development. They don't just keep us in the dark and limit quantities to us.

I love my iPhone but I will always believe Windows>OSX now and forever. I've never had a virus or a crash and I love beta releases and how improved Windows has become since XP.

I will beta test Windows 8 when they give me a copy to beta test for them ane when they provide support, just as I did with Window 7
Microsoft release and support betas, to use a 'leaked' version is just stupid.
I beta test all sorts of things, but always with the authors support, otherwise you are just asking for trouble.
