  • Stealthily Record Voice Memos in iOS 7 with 'StealthMemos'

Whenever you begin recording a voice memo in iOS 7, the Status Bar becomes red and says "Recording" alongside a time for how long the device has been recording. The Lock Screen also displays a waveform animation from the Voice Memos application to show that the device is recording and how long it has been recording for.

If you want to be able to make voice memo recordings without it being so obvious that you're doing so, you can use a new free jailbreak tweak in ModMyi repository in Cydia called StealthMemos by iOS developer Andy Wiik.

StealthMemos will make it so that whenever you initiate a voice memos recording, the Status Bar will no longer appear red and the Lock Screen will no longer display the animated waveform indicating that you are currently recording all sound around you.

The benefit of this, you may ask? now, you don't have to worry about people around you knowing that you're recording them, meaning you can create a real verbal contract and hold them to whatever they just said.

SealthMemos doesn't have any options to configure. If you would like to give the tweak a try, it's available for free right now in the ModMyi repository in Cydia. iOS 7 is required for the installation.

    Name: StealthMemos
    Price: FREE
    Version: 1.0
    Requirements: iOS 7.0-7.1.2
Tested on: iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2
    Repo: ModMyi
    Developer: Andy Wiik
    Editor's Rating:  5/5

      Same here.

Isn't it illegal to record someone without their knowledge? I believe there are both federal and state laws about this issue. Kinda hard to "hold someone to what they said" when u r busy getting prosecuted :-0.

I really don't see your close friends and family dragging you to court over a little voice recording.

Not sure about the legalities but I would assume that state jurisdiction would come into play as well as if you're in a public vs private setting. If you can video/record people in public, I'm not sure how recording with this would be illegal. Its not like you're secretly eavesdropping/recording a telephone conversation with it so I don't know. In light of the recent Donald Sterling situation, I don't know whats legal or not... LOL

As for this tweak, its old news. This has been on the Flex2 cloud for months. Actually, it seems that most of this developers tweaks are from Flex.

U can record anyone out in public but u have to inform people if u record them. Through a phone conversation or on a recording app like this one.

Your "close friends and family" are people that you feel a need to audio record without their knowledge? Its actually my understanding that many courts are filled with "friends and family" suing the life out of each other.

Absolutely! I love a good inside joke.

Regarding the court thing, well they must not be very close huh? I don't think the courts are filled with close friends and family suing each other lol, you're watching too much Judge Judy.

not true. It varies by state. some states are one-party consent, some are two-party. In one-party consent states, only one party to the conversation needs to consent to the recording; that is to say, if you are a party to the conversation, so long as you consent to you recording the conversation (disagreeing with yourself would be weird), you're good.
