  • The Future of Jailbreaking: New Developments!

Two big new developments concerning the future of jailbreaking and unlocking our iPhones have arisen recently. @Comex, the developer of the insanely-popular one-click Spirit jailbreak, has officially announced that a jailbreak for ALL iOS 4 devices has already been developed and will be made public in the very near future. As of right now, 4.0 can currently only be jailbroken by updating an already-jailbroken 3.1.2 device using PwnageTool or sn0wbreeze, so while 3G and iPod touch G2 owners can simply downgrade their devices to 3.1.2, devices that use the Apple update verification method (3G S or newer) can only downgrade with SHSHs on file, and therefore, have to have been jailbroken previously.

iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) users must have an already jailbroken device on 3.1.2 or must downgrade to 3.1.2 with SHSHs on file with Cydia before jailbreaking up to 4.0 using PwnageTool (mac) or Snowbreeze (win). iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (old bootrom) users can simply upgrade to 4.0 via iTunes and jailbreak with redsn0w. New bootrom iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G users can not currently jailbreak 4.0. There are guides for all the above in our guides section. Of course iPhone 4 users can not jailbreak right now.

In addition, @MuscleNerd and @planetbeing are hard at work developing a carrier unlock for the new iPhone 4. Being in possession of the new iOS 4 jailbreak from comex, they can develop and ready an unlock before the new jailbreak is made public.

The future of the jailbreaking scene is looking bright; be sure to thank and donate to these hard-working hackers!

Maybe not in your opinion - but luckily the devs know better.

We pay $250 for the iPhone4....plus $100 a month to AT&T... Don't know about u, but that doesn't leave much extra money to buy EVERY APP!! Yes there r amazing free JB apps such as SBsettings (can't stop swiping my status bar), but just be real, u really want free apps and games, just like me. WHY WILL NO ONE admit this?? Yes I love JB because it allows me to customize, and unleash the full power of the iPhone...But let's be honest guys, it allows us to all be able to enjoy the same apps people with more $$$ get to enjoy! Flame me if u want.... But u know it's true...even if u won't admit it.
Yea, let's be honest, I've jb all my iPhones and my fiancé's and neither one of us has ever used any cracked apps, we jb them for the customization and tools. Yea I'm sure alot of people do use cracked apps but the majority of us don't

I don't see the point in rushing. Better safe than sorry.

That is easy for me to say because I am jailbroken... ; )

Might as well throw in my 2cents (even though no one will care)

I have jailbroken all my previous iPod touches mainly for the winterboard+bossprefs access, and when I got my 3GS, I found out that you can also use hacked apps, so yes I did dabble in the "illegal" side, but I still buy the apps that I use on a consistant basis.

ill admit it , ive downloaded some free apps.
Half the time they are crap and get deleted. I have however purchased apps before that are actually good and deserve to be bought.

I feel no shame in that.

I don't jailbreak for stealing apps, either. I have never stolen an app store app. IMO any app worth buying usually has a light demo version for free. Everyone rags on Apple for doing weird things like disabling stuff on ios4 for the 3g, but think about it. It's smart business. If you had a business wouldn't you do the same? The only thing I don't agree with is charging people with older devices for a software upgrade. Also for dropping support for hardware that's only a few years old.

It is almost to the point where jailbreaking is moot. Unless of course, you want to Theme or bend your carriers rules.

I treat apps the same way I treat music CDs...If I download a cd, love the artist and cd, I go out and buy it. I do the same thing with apps.

As for saying it's morally wrong, according to apple the simple act of JBing is morally wrong, so where do u guys draw that line?

Oh one more thing, apps + games u install through a program like "**********" r 100% safe. U r not getting some weird, "cracked" file. It's basically the same exact thing as the real thing, like an ISO of a CD.

Pirating is illegal (it is a civil offence) Jailbreaking is not.
The law draws the line, not us.

I actually end up spending more $$$$ when I jailbreak! LOL

Because of fantastic apps like BiteSMS, Infinidock, MyWi, LockInfo, etc., and Themes too.

So JB'ing is def not to save money for me! It is to make my iPhone more functional and more....mine.

You can justify stealing anyway you want to if it makes you feel like less of a thief. That is the bottom line though. Stealing. By jailbreaking I am not stealing anything. I am increasing the functionality of my phone.

I have had 9 iPhones in 2 years,( I have a bad water/iPhone habit) The last 2 3GS sat in their box brand new purchased at full retail price until I was able to JB the current firmware. Does that tell you how die -hard I am towards JB? lol BTW is there a JB for my new iPhone 4? I hope to receive it before the 15th. If not I guess it will be sitting in the box too lol

iPhones are not worth having unless it has been JailBroke

      Isn't this the truth!!! lol

Infini-dock, LockInfo and Bars are enough reason to JB IMO!

There is a jailbreak, but it hasn't been released yet. It won't be much longer.

      Good news,
especialy since last night when i pushed RESET NETWORK SETTINGS because of EDGE not work ... gues what i stuck in infinite reboot loop with apple logo :-(

Before that day i reset network setting more than 3 times without any problem.

My 3GS 32 GB was JB on 3.1.2 nontethered and all worked fine ( had 267 programs installed ).

Now i am stuck on 3.1.3 and my phone have new boot rom soo i can't jailbreak 3.1.3 ( and i don't have SHSH for 3.1.2 only for 3.1.3 )

I am willing to test all new jailbreak program ( want to be betatester for 3.1.3 and 4.0 on new bootrom 6.4 )

There wont be an ip4 jailbreak till august.

Think about what needs to happen. New iOS update needs to be released. New JB must be retested.

It would be nice to see sooner but my bet is August (mid to late).

      Hope I am wrong.

If it was really illegal to jailbreak then the people who made the software would be in jail. If you physically own something that is real, the company that created it can't tell you what you may do with it. Possession is 9/10 of the law, which is why Apple's small print doesn't really matter. The only thing Apple CAN do is refuse warranty service.

PwnageTool came out the day after 4.0 was released. If they hold onto the jailbreak until the next firmware update it will only be a day or two after it's released and they'll finally release the jailbreak.

The only time determining factor anymore is how long it takes Apple to release the "bar fix" firmware.

And I'd say chances of Apple releasing the firmware sooner rather than later are good as everyday there's more and more new iPhone owners complaining about the signal issue. It's in Apple's best interest to get it out A.S.A.P.
