  • The Future of Jailbreaking: New Developments!

Two big new developments concerning the future of jailbreaking and unlocking our iPhones have arisen recently. @Comex, the developer of the insanely-popular one-click Spirit jailbreak, has officially announced that a jailbreak for ALL iOS 4 devices has already been developed and will be made public in the very near future. As of right now, 4.0 can currently only be jailbroken by updating an already-jailbroken 3.1.2 device using PwnageTool or sn0wbreeze, so while 3G and iPod touch G2 owners can simply downgrade their devices to 3.1.2, devices that use the Apple update verification method (3G S or newer) can only downgrade with SHSHs on file, and therefore, have to have been jailbroken previously.

iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) users must have an already jailbroken device on 3.1.2 or must downgrade to 3.1.2 with SHSHs on file with Cydia before jailbreaking up to 4.0 using PwnageTool (mac) or Snowbreeze (win). iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (old bootrom) users can simply upgrade to 4.0 via iTunes and jailbreak with redsn0w. New bootrom iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G users can not currently jailbreak 4.0. There are guides for all the above in our guides section. Of course iPhone 4 users can not jailbreak right now.

In addition, @MuscleNerd and @planetbeing are hard at work developing a carrier unlock for the new iPhone 4. Being in possession of the new iOS 4 jailbreak from comex, they can develop and ready an unlock before the new jailbreak is made public.

The future of the jailbreaking scene is looking bright; be sure to thank and donate to these hard-working hackers!

You should still check your Bootrom, if its 359.2... Then just use Spirit2PWN(google is your friend)from cydia, install it,then use sn0wbreeze 1.7 to make a custom firmware and restore it to your 3gs...

      I Had Success with my
      3Gs MC Model
      Bootrom 359.2

I have to put up with the results - a young hacker who thinks he knows what he is doing has put a windows wrapper round xpwn - do you really think that if it was that simple the Dev team would not have done this?
Peoplke think that if it works for them it is OK. It is not. Steer clear.

I am starting to miss the jailbreak less and less. I'm actually growing accustomed to a stock iPhone.

      WTF is wrong with me?

You are being integrated into the Apple Borg collective. Resistance is futile.

      JB will free you again.

As for me, I am dying to get something on my lockscreen! LockInfo, Intelliscreen, something!

You know, both of those extensions have been updated to support 4.0. I'm personally a LockInfo fan because I hate having space taken up that's not for new information; Intelliscreen puts permanent "panes" on your lockscreen, but LockInfo only shows when there is some new info. (Why do you need a block dedicated to new SMS when you don't have any?)

Its nothing to do about the stolen apps, the fact that iPhone is empty without a JB will remain a fact. I suddenly thought about Nokia, yeah, I've had the N95 and the N97 which are great smart phones, but the most beautiful thing is that you can do basically everything you want with it, and for some reason Nokia was never preventing it, they even give you tools to do it.
And while having Nokia, i never installed pirated stuff, and never installed pirated stuff on my 3.1.3 JB, for some reason i never needed that...

I download pirated stuff and if I use it a lot I usually end up purchasing it after being harassed by upgrade notifications. I never would have purchased iteleport if I couldn't of used it for free first. I purchased Navigon mobile navigator after pirating it and Tom Tom. If there wasn't @#$%ou$ I probably wouldn't have purchased any apps at all.

That doesn't change the fact that Apple is still going to be releasing a firmware update. If Comex releases the jailbreak before then and Apple can patch it in the update then everyone who gets a new iphone 4 after the update will most likely be stuck @ 4.0.1/4.1 whatever version # they decide to give it.

By waiting, they're maximizing the amount of people that will be able to jailbreak.

Ok so, i've made a decision.... as much as I like my new 4, there are things about it that are REALLY pizzing me off, mainly the proximity sensor (yes, I have tried all the suggested fixes).
I am of the opinion that any new version of an existing product should be AT LEAST as good as the previous, and this thing just isn't!! And this is aside from the fact that it doesn't do half of what I need it to do, without a jailbreak.
So, if a jailbreak is not released by the 16th (regardless of whether Apple releases their update) this 4 is going back to AT&T and i'm going to kill that contract extension I signed.

I suppose i'll just go back to my 3GS which has the old bootrom, is blackra1ned 3.1.2, has SHSH's on file, and does all the stuff I need it to do.... except for the ability to use this stupidazz new micro SIM!!
