  • Remove the iOS 7 Lock Screen's Slide to Unlock Glint Effect With 'No Glint'

The iOS 7 Lock Screen, whether you're pre-iOS 7.1, or post iOS 7.1, has a type of glint effect that causes the slide to unlock slider text to shine with light. Granted, Apple changed how the effect looks on iOS 7.1 and later, there's a glint effect on both types of iOS 7 Lock Screens.

If you're not a fan of that glint effect, then iOS developer CP Digital Darkroom has come out with a new free jailbreak tweak in Cydia called No Glint that will probably make you a happy person.

You can see in the screenshot examples above that with the tweak installed, your slide to unlock text will become flat instead of glistening with that glint effect.

No Glint doesn't come with any options to configure, but it does add a toggle switch to the Settings application so that you can enable or disable the tweak on demand, as shown below:

Whether you just hate the appearance of the glint, or you're using some kind of Lock Screen jailbreak tweak or theme that the glint effect just doesn't seem to go nicely with, No Glint is a good option for anyone looking to get rid of that shining animation from the iOS 7 Lock Screen's slide to unlock text. It's merely an aesthetics tweak.

If you would like to give No Glint a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak supports all versions of iOS 7.

it's an image, you don't need a stand alone tweak

For iOS 7.0.6 and below it's called:

      lockscreen-spotlight@2x.png = 280 x 80 px

      these are the other elements

      glinty-band-chevron@2x.png = 26 x 56 px (alternative arrow on the lock screen)
      glinty-chevron@2x.png = 20 x 46 px (the arrow on the lock screen)

      they go in:

      Manually

      System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SpringBoardFoundation.framework

      Winterboard

      Your.theme/Bundles/com.apple.SpringBoardFoundation

for iOS 7.1 and above you have to use Winterboard it's called:

      UIGlintyStringViewShimmerMask.png(add @2x if it doesn't work) = 768 x 48 px

      this is the other element

      UIGlintyStringViewChevron.png(add @2x if it doesn't work) = 20 x 46 px (the arrow on the lockscreen)

      they Go in:

      Your.theme/UIImages

      or

      Your.theme/Bundles/com.apple.UIKit

I still don't understand the iOS 7.1 "glint" effect. It looked much better on iOS 7.0, and sometimes on 7.1 it will randomly switch back to the 7.0 look. It seems pretty buggy all around to me.
