  • Apple Making It As Easy As Possible To Return Your iPhone 4

There has been no shortage of questions directed our way at MMi in the last day or so regarding Apple's updated return policy. The reason for the questions is because multiple sites and threads across the blogosphere have reported different or outright inaccurate information about Apple's revised return policy as it pertains to the iPhone 4.

Although Apple clearly states so on its website, some still think its a "rumor" that Apple is waiving restocking fees and extending iPhone 4 returns to 30 days. In fact, this is true. Apple's iPhone 4 memo effectively changed the terms of Apple's iPhone return policy. As it stands, you have one full month to bring back your device for a full refund. If you preordered or purchased online, you have 30 days from the ship date. The usual 10% restocking fee no longer applies.

Yesterday, Apple finally broke down and admitted (kinda) that the Death Grip is real. In effect, the company acknowledged that there's a "bug" in how the software displays signal-strength bars. A software fix should be available in "a few weeks." But until then - and up until now - the iPhone 4 release has been a public relations nightmare for Apple. Between a botched preorder process and supply shortages on launch, to the discovery of the "Death Grip" and Apple's initial refusal to address the problem, changing the return policy was a masterstroke of genius to help convince potential iPhone 4 buyers to actually bite the bullett and purchase the iPhone 4, since there is essentially no obligation from this point forward.

don't hijack the thread like this. I have seen so many people complain and complain about not having a jailbreak out for OS ___. The guys who come out with the jailbreak are doing US a favor by releasing it. If you want one right now.... learn the programing and write one for yourself.
No need to get so defensive. There is nothing wrong with someone being excited for a jailbreak.

      You are right.

Lets just go to the apple store and buy a bumper for $30!!!

That will teach AT&T to mess with us.

      LMAO

Funny thing... There was an AT&T store where I was getting some lunch so walk in to find out to see if it is was just my phone, figure they would display the best ones out. So I use right hand to pick up the phone and held it normally so I can check out internet, had to grip it tight because of that pesky lines to secure the phone. Started from 5 bar dropped down to 1. I did not do the death grip on purpose, and I am using the wrong hand. Anyone who plays with the phone should notice something like this, all you have to do is hold it for around 2 seconds and it will start to disappear. Maybe people at the store is not looking at the reception because one expect great reception at the store.

I just received my third iphone yesterday. I got two 16g's on the release date and a 32g yesterday. All three phones behave exactly the same. Their signal bars are usually the same, they all lose signal greatly if you hold them..yada yada yada.

I would bet money that every iphone 4 out there acts in exactly the same manner. The only difference is currently, you could, theoretically drop 25% signal and still have five bars. That same 25% signal drop will take someone at 4 bars down to zero bars. Even apple has said that the bars overstate the upper signal strength.

That all being said, the problem still comes back that the signal drop is much greater than it has ever been on previous iphones, and that is a fact. So you people who are sitting there saying your phone doesn't lose signal will be quite surprised when apple changes their signal bars with the next patch. I don't know if that bothers you at all or not, I guess it is up to you.

I am still on the fence about returning them.

go buy a couple bumpers or cases and see if that fixes your problem instead of wasting time at the apple store

I haven't been to the apple store yet, not really sure what you are talking about. Why don't you buy me a couple cases and send them to me.

I have three iphones so $120 should take care of it pretty nicely.

So if I do return my iPhone 4 and use my extra 3GS, how do I convert my new "micro sim" back into a Mini Sim? I have tried googling and no luck. Is that something the Apple Store or ATT can move my number to a new Sim?
