  • Apple Preparing Big iPhone 4, iPad Push in China

Apple has big hopes for the iPhone 4 and iPad in China. As it turns out, a prominent Chinese PC maker now has the wheels in motion on distributing the iPad in China. On tap for the tablet is a full slate of localized content, an attribute that will greatly increase the iPad's attractiveness within the world's largest mobile community. Apart from the iPad, however, Apple is working with Chinese wireless carriers to get both the iPad and iPhone 4 in as many hands as possible. If all goes as planned, China Unicom will be able to offer coverage for the iPhone 4 and the iPad before year's end.

The rumors and rumblings about all the above were covered in great detail Thursday by DigiTimes, which reported that Fang Zhongua, the head honcho of a major Chinese PC maker, indicated that his firm is actively working with Apple to bring about the widespread introduction and assimilation of the iPad in China. For the time being, only a handful of distributors are pushing Apple products throughout the nation. According to DigiTimes, the marketing strategy for the iPad will be heavily dependent on that aforementioned slate of heavily localized content offerings and ebooks relevant to the culturally distinct regions within China.

On top of Apple's product push on the horizon, we're only a few weeks away from the grand unveiling of the second official Apple Store in China. Looking more like a palace beneath a curtain than a retail outlet under construction, expectations for the Shanghai store are high, with many speculating that the glorified glass structure of the facility could very well prove the most beautiful and ornate Apple Store in the world.

Haha, I wonder how they're going to fill orders for a country of over 1 billion if they can't even keep up with them in the US? I'm sure China has more population than all the places they've actually released the iPhone 4 so far, combined. I would want them to be cheaper since they don't have to import or export anything.

I am sure they will have to send them UPS to Cali and back. I once sent a package to my neighbor to piss him off (as a joke as well) It went from my house to another state then back. I thought it was retarded but funny none the less.

In response about filling orders... I don't think this will be an issue. I am sure 50% of their market will be pirate copies. When I was in Krygeek and Turkey you could get just about anything from China--- a Rolex with all the paperwork to a 42" TV that looked exactly like a samsung ultra thin for around $200. I am pretty sure if you gave them a picture of a Merc they would clone it. its absolutely insane. Of course I wouldn't lick the damn thing (lol) I am sure the paint, or plastic contains some sort of lead that was collected from a nuclear landfill... Im just saying...

Hey... perhaps we all have a clone copy of the iPhone 4 (hence the death grip) and they are stockpiling the real phones for them... hmmm who is laughing now...

      Seriously good for them...

Yes, they should stock the US first and then move on.

I think they'll be fine. It is a pretty expensive item, and the iPhone isn't preferred to a lot of the local phones in China. There are some amazing phones that will never leave China due to patent infringement concerns, but I'd bet Apple has more of an uphill fight than you might expect. The level of control Apple has won't be popular, either....
