  • Apple: Calm Down, Shut Up, and Go Away with Your Death Grip Talk

If we didn't know better here at MMi, I would think that while Steve Jobs has been busy of late telling Apple fans to chill out, breathe, and relax over ridiculous Internet rumors regarding the iPhone 4's perceived reception issues, he's probably trying to tell the same to himself. That is, as more customers report a similar experience with the "Death Grip," Apple is feeling the pressure to do something - anything - to help stop the erosion of the updated smartphone's public luster.

Our friends at BGR indicate that Steve Jobs has gone on yet another email tirade, telling people to "relax" about the "Death Grip" rumors. “It’s just a phone,” Apple's chief tells one inquiring iPhone 4 buyer. “You’re getting worked up over a few days of internet rumors.”

Unfortunately for Steve Jobs and everyone else at Apple, many - including no shortage of readers and contributors to MMi - realize there's a bigger problem here than just an "Internet rumor."

According to the report, one angry customer code named "Tom" was politely informed by Apple that the "hysteria" shouldn't be believed and, as a result of the rampant rumors, he should refrain from perpetuating the cycle of lies and stop posting more comments and videos of the so-called "Death Grip" in action. In other words, Apple told the dude to calm down, shut up, and go away. Hardly a solution to the problem... but to each his own, I guess.

But "Tom" wasn't happy with Apple's recommendation and spouted off with some words that many of us will likely concur with: “You are going to kill your brand over one product. Apple is coming off arrogant and rude. If there is no fix just tell people so they can return their phones. We have work to do. I have bought just about every apple product made in the last 20 years and this is the 1st time I am ashamed to be a MAC fan.”

I have no 'Death Grip' issue with my iPhone 4. It gets the same reception using any grip. Soooo, why is that a design flaw? How many people actually experience this problem? and how many people do NOT? Let's do a survey.

The problem with the antenna i think is a multiple of things. i dont think neither a new update or a simple trip to the apple store fix is going to be an option for this phone.

I'm not and I have no issue. Remember this; Even if 1000 people come forward to complain about this issue that is less than 1/10 of 1% of the phones out there which means it's a quality control issue and not a design flaw. The product would have to see a signifigant percentage to equate this to a design flaw.

Apple is now an arrogant bully, and Jobs is king that runs this bullyfarm.
Don't tell us its a rumor when it is happening, telling people there is no problem when we can hold our phones normally and see the bar disappear.
Since Apple will not do anything about it, AT&T should. Maybe this would generate loyalty and save some of its users from switching, because all this signal problems from Apple's explaination if it is not Apple's phone then it is AT&T.

I have no case, and my phone doubt do it either, neither does my wife's phone, I really think people are making this way out of proportion, if u don't like it then return the iPhone its that simple, so either buy a case or return the iPhone so please shut up and move on people

Just because there is a lawsuit doesn't mean it is a legitmate claim. Class action suits are like domain names. If you don't grab the good ones first you don't make any money.

I'm having really ridiculous issues with my phone. It basically doesn't function if I hold it in my left hand. if I try to make a call with it in my left hand, it says call failed. If I try to use the internet, it takes forever to load. if I switch to my left hand during a call, the call gets dropped.

this problem is very very real for me.

CT, I felt the same way until yesterday. I unfortunately fell victim to "The Grip" and now seems to be doing it even more frequently.

I would return it but don't want to eat the 50.00 restock fee. Apple BETTER do something as I too am a avid Mac enthusiast who is ashamed by their arrogant behavior.

I think we need to put Steve into a timeout!

the most funny explanation about those failures in the iphone 4 came from Jobs on him twitter, when he mentioned that all what people are going through is just because they were pushed to release the product so early because of the HUGE leaking information and samples.
THAT INSANE PEOPLE, I think he should think twice before he puts the whole "apple" more in mud!
