  • Spirit Exploit Ported for iOS 4 and iPhone 4 : Coming Soon!

Our good friends, MuscleNerd and planetbeing, have announced that Comex's Spirit userland jailbreak has been ported to work on iOS 4 and even the iPhone 4!

Before you go asking like crazy, I'll tell you now... There is still no release date, but rather, just great news that our next Jailbreak tool is right around the corner. The image above that you see is high-resolution, at the native iPhone 4 resolution, just a bit of extra proof that it's working. Go ahead, click the image and see it in it's full glory.

Stay tuned folks, our next Jailbreak tool will arrive shortly.

NOTE: This is not the bootrom exploit, but rather another userland jailbreak, which means Apple could patch it in the next update, so make sure you back up your blobs once your jailbroken.

    Tweet from MuscleNerd:

Congrats to @comex for another userland JB Twitpic - Share photos on Twitter <Ė hi-res Cydia via @planetbeing & @chpwn iPhone4s

    Tweet from PlanetBeing:

Think Iím the first one I know about to get a root shell (and SSH) on iPhone 4, using poor @comexís code (since he has no iPhone 4).

    on another note however,

Then you don't understand about 'the chain of trust'. Once you are on the JB train you can always be JB.
Any phone that has been pwned can be upgraded to 4.0 with pwnage.
Once the exploit is there then there is nothing Apple can do to close it - but the user has to be careful not to close it them-self!

Woohoo! I found a Best Buy 120 miles away with one in stock. Going to go there and get my iPhone 4 today!!!!

I hope a jailbreak comes out soon, but a stock iPhone 4 is better than a Samsung T429 slider phone any day!

He's immature, he's got a bad attitude towards fixing his software that people gave him money for, and complains when people criticize his screwups. Blackrain worked for me and so did blacksnow, AFTER the problems were fixed that he was not real enthused about fixing and I gave him $75 for the unlock. So I am entitled to my opinion and I don't know why you have to point that out. Got your little immature panties in a knot too? Did my 'opinion' hurt your wee little feelings? Seems like you need to grow up too. Yeah he's a one man show, but he doesn't act his age at all, he acts like a whiny ***** and then releases incomplete software that he doesn't want to fix without being given more money. Dev Team takes longer, uses more people but their **** works. When has GeoHot released anything that did anything other than just jailbreak? When did he release software that built a whole IPSW? He didn't, hasn't, and won't. I'd rather it take longer and work than pay a dude for some half-assed release that takes 3 versions before it works reliably.

So what they release for Mac first? That's a minus? Quit ******** and realize that gives you the chance for the Mac users to iron out any release problems before you try. If that's a reason not to like the Dev Team you're grasping at straws and got your poor little feelings hurt. WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH.

I'm not addressing your personal attacks but I will address some of the other stuff. Yes it IS a big issue when the DevTeam releases stuff for Macs over Windows. When was the last time you looked at marketshare of Windows vs Mac? Obviously you haven't.

You're being hypocritical in your statement of them releasing for a Mac first and giving Mac users time to iron out any problems but you say their stuff works.

All I'm saying is that GeoHot knows what he is doing. He's proven that. Also, he isn't completely dedicated to screwing around with the iPhone as others are.

Blackra1n worked flawlessly for me and for tons of others. Same with Spirit. I'm not worried about unlocking and alot of other people aren't either. Churning out ipsw's isn't for everyone and that's what the point was all about.

      No harm, no foul...no grudge.

The Dev Team release for Macs first because most of them are Mac users, Now Planetbeing is back, who knows?

Gehot has only ever asked for donations for work he has done and the only time he said he would do something if others did something for him was that balloon race which was a social engineering experiment. He is a quick and dirty hacker who enjoys the thrill of doing something and is very good, but if it doesn't work for everyone he doesn't care, if it works for 95% of the people (usually a lot more) then he moves on.

The Dev Team, on the other hand release tools that work for evryone and provide support and fixes, if they don't provide windows versions of pwnage it's because it uses Apple specific routines and any windows version would be, at best, half baked and liable to cause problems for lots of people (witness that awful program Sn0wbreeze).

Geohotz tools work for most people, but don't moan if they don't work for you, he won't provide support, but others in the community are doing so (but please don't ask the Dev Team to support his work).

If you don't like his work then use the Dev Team's - UltraSn0w can now unlock all BB and pwnage can help people upgrade.
They release when they have something stable, usable and legal.
George releases when he has something legal that he thinks is worth releasing.

People seem to mistake having an exploit for having something usable and just not releasing it. That is, of course, not the case.

You also have Comex who came along with a different approach with Spirit.

We live in interesting times, please don't knock those doing so much to help so many.

Seriously fellas. Honest opinion. Should I return my iPhone 4? I have Tmobile. Have always had unlocked phones thanks to these great gentlemen. I am getting close to my 2 week return period and just am nervous to have a 700$ iPod. Lol. What do y'all think? Is a way to use this phone in Tmobile definitely down the road? Even if ts 2 months from now. Just trying to decide.

Hard to say yes or no. Also have you modified your sim to fit in the iPhone 4. Also correct me if I am wrong but no one really knows if the iPhone 4 will work on T-Mobile. Everyone is going off of previous iphones.

Well the good news is that Apple's statement on the antenna issue is offering anyone a refund within 30 days of purchase if they are unhappy so you have a little longer if you wish.

      Hope this helps

In the same boat, lined up on the day for 14 hours and paid full retail. I'm going to wait until the last minute.

Personally think/hope that planetbeing is close.

Return it and buy a new one when/if someone can make an unlock for the iphone 4. No point in spending 700$ and hoping it gets unlocked lol. I'd just return it and wait. But then you have to hope that it isn't still in short supply when you want to buy a new one....
