  • Amidst iPhone 4 Chaos, Apple Releases iMovie App

For those lucky enough to get their hands on an iPhone 4 today, you'll have some really cool apps to play with this evening, especially the new iMovie app, which Apple released in conjunction with the official launch of its updated fourth generation iPhone. The $4.99 application is, by all accounts, remarkable. so far, the reviews are overwhelmingly glowing, with five star ratings proving the norm right out of the gate.

The application, as already well documented, requires a new iPhone 4 running iOS 4. And Apple certainly isn't downplaying the power and potential of this nifty little app. "Make beautiful HD movies anywhere with iMovie, the fun, feature-rich video editing application for iPhone 4," Apple says of the new app's arrival. "Create a video postcard of your day at the beach and publish it to the web -- without ever leaving your spot in the sand. Or make a movie if your child's birthday party and send it to your parents -- while the party is in full swing. With iMovie for iPhone, you can start several projects and finish them whenever you want and wherever you want."

Unveiled earlier this month at Apple's 2010 WWDC, the iMovie app enables users to produce top quality videos that include themes, transitions, titles, music, photos, and even geolocation maps. You can use prerecorded or live video recorded directly into the timeline. It works just as well in landscape or portrait mode. Making matters even simpler, you can access the clips quickly in the trusty bin we're all familiar with. Best of all, the application doesn't waste an ounce of potential inherent in the 5 megapixel iPhone 4 lens and the device's ability to capture video in high definition at 30 frames per second.

So while the iPhone 4 launch itself is, without question, the biggest Apple story of the day, the arrival of the iMovie app is definitely the second.

I saw this for download last night. It's weird how they don't say that it's only compatible with the iPhone 4 in the App Store. Can anybody confirm that it will only work on the iPhone 4 or has anyone tried it on a 3GS?

This app sucks. How do we do writing overlay on the video or use the themes. Reel director was better.

I installed iMovie this afternoon and had a play with it. Its a nice wee app, but doesn't see to do much to be honest. I made a little clip, cut it down to 10 seconds and low quality - then MMS'd it to my better half. She got the message on her old Nokia classic phone and it was watchable.

I hope they update it with some more features soon.

As for working on the 3GS - the reason it ONLY works on the iPhone 4 (and not even the iPad) is because the iPhone 4 has double the RAM. I guess someone will hack it onto a 3GS / iPad at some point though.

Yeah...you try to find it in search and there's an imovie app that's 4.99 that has nothing to do with the Apple iMovie app. WTF?

      Even has a similar star.

How the hell is Apple letting that app stand and screw over so many people?

And WTH is there app not showing up in Search too?

It just crashes back to the springboard. No error message or anything. Check the reviews lots of others having this problem as well. My video is only 1:18 so it's not too long. Maybe it's having a harder time with slideshows

Edit: So if I delete the one video from the slideshow it works. I tried doing a short video with two videos and one picture and that worked but the combo of pics and videos seems to crash it.

A new industry is born. Its called iPorn.

Call your girl (She's in the other room)
Slap her (Usual in Da Porn Gheto)
Tell her you gonna film both In Action.
Slap her again (Even if no refuses to do it)
      Edit with iMovie.
      YouTube it.

I actually found the iMovie alot fun when I used it. I made a couple videos that took me a while to edit just right. One was serious.... Shots and bids of my bro who is leaving for Afghanistan n a few days and one funny vid of my friend washing his truck with some zoomed out shots of his dog staring at me and some fade outs of an ear of corn....with Rick astley playing. the quality of all the photos and vids were excellent. And I exported at 720. Seems to get the full hd u have to export into iTunes on your pc
