  • Properly Removing PPSync From Your iOS 7.1/iOS 7.1.1 Device After Jailbreaking With Pangu

If you are running a jailbreak on your iOS 7.1 or iOS 7.1.1 device by way of the new Pangu untethered jailbreak tool that was released yesterday, then you have a piece of software on your device known as PPSync.

Citing Karen Tsai, PPSync is a "poorly written" piece of software meant to allow the user to install unsigned applications on the device PPSync is installed on, which would have worked together with the piracy store in Pangu if you opted into including it with your jailbreak alongside Cydia. But as we recommended in our guide for jailbreaking with Pangu, you should un-check the option to keep yourself safe and to stay within moral boundaries.

What we have found out, however, is that even when you un-check the option to install the piracy store to opt out of installing it, the Pangu jailbreak will still install PPSync on your device, but it just won't install the piracy store.

    Well darn...

If you're like the rest of us at ModMyi, then you don't want anything to do with this kind of sketchy software. So we're going to tell you how you can remove it from your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad right now while still keeping your untethered iOS 7.1/iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak.

You'll need to install a package from a third-party repository in Cydia called Complete PPSync Remover by iOS developer Karen Tsai. The package can be found under a third-party Cydia repository, which we've included for you below:

    PHP Code:
    http://cydia.angelxwind.net/
You will just need to navigate the repository and find the package we just told you about, then install it. The package will remove PPSync from your device. You need not install anything else from this repository, and you can even delete the repository after you install this package.

PPSync is not only a piracy tool, but it can also cause long-term issues, as Tsai explains. According to the developer, it can actually corrupt the system applications like Calculator, Mail, Weather, Safari, and others, making them fail and crash unexpectedly, over and over.

With that being said, we recommend you remove PPSync from your device(s) after installing the Pangu untethered jailbreak for your own good.

If you haven't jailbroken with Pangu already, be sure to read our seven considerations before doing so. It is a safe jailbreak, and we have jailbroken numerous devices with it so far, so if you're comfortable with the jailbreak, you can go through with it, but we recommend uninstalling PPSync when you're done!

Side note: you can remove PPSync yourself from the Cydia installed package list, but doing this still leaves behind files on your device that Complete PPSync Remover by Karen Tsai will actually remove. So we think using this package is the best and most thorough way to remove PPSynce from your device.

When you do that, it leaves behind some files on your device that this package will actually remove for you.

So I would still recommend that you use this package to further cleanse your device.

Can i remove this package after installation? Will the files from PPSync still be there after uninstallation or is it safe to remove?

I guessing it would be safe to delete it, haven't heard differently, but perhaps till we learn more just leave it.

You might have to change to "expert" view on the Installed page.

Your best option might be restoring and re-jailbreaking, then apply this fix as soon as you're done.

Like any jailbreak release, there are known to be issues so try restoring and rejailbreaking or wait til the utility is updated or another utility is released from a known source (evasion) but that might be unlikely.

Same here, as I looked for it also.
