  • Sn0wBreeze 1.6 Released : Jailbreak iOS 4 for Windows

Warning: Spirit Jailbreakers: Do Not Update while using the Spirit JB Exploit. Use RedSn0w, PwnageTool, or Sn0wBreeze to jailbreak first, and THEN you may use these new tools.

Yesterday we had the release of PwnageTool 4.01 for Mac, from the Dev-Team, which allowed you to make custom iOS 4 firmwares ready for jailbreaking. Only a day later, we now have Windows support for creating custom jailbroken firmwares, with Sn0wBreeze 1.6

Just like RedSn0w, you will have the additional functionality options for the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G, for multitasking and wallpapers. The same rules apply for Sn0wBreeze 1.6 as does PwnageTool. Certain devices are not supported. This is simply due to the fact that the hardware is not supported in iOS 4.0. The Phone 2G, iPod Touch, iPod Touch 3G are not supported. Neither is the iPhone 3GS with the new Bootrom, the MC models.

If you have an iPhone 3GS, Sn0wbreeze 1.6 only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom. If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak, then you can create the custom firmware with Sn0wbreeze 1.6 and restore this ipsw with your jailbroken iPhone, while in recovery mode.

If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3G at 3.1.2 (but not jailbroken with Spirit) then you can create the firmware with Sn0wBreeze and restore your iPhone 3G from recovery mode or DFU mode. If you have an out of the box iPhone 3G you should restore using a Sn0wbreeze's DFU mode. If you have a Jailbroken 3.1.3 iPhone 3G it is very possible that this can fail from recovery mode, if this failure happens you will need to restore using DFU mode.

Just like PwnageTool, you can add custom packages, which means you can include ultrasn0w along with the firmware so that you won't need Wi-Fi access to install it later. So basically everything that was offered on the Mac side with PwnageTool, is now available on the Windows side via Sn0wBreeze.

As an alternative to Sn0wbreeze 1.6, you can use redsn0w on iPhone 3G (on both Windows and Mac).

Let us recap real quick. Here is a list of supported devices:

iPhone 3GS (old bootrom, non MC model, not spirit jailbroken)
    iPhone 3G (might require DFU,)
iPod 2G (non MC model, not spirit jailbroken)

In almost every case, you need to be previously jailbroken except for the 3G, but you must NOT be jailbroken with Spirit (on 3.1.2 this might work, but 3.1.3 has issues).

Sorry guys, still no support for newer model iPhone 3GS. Stick to 3.1 for now.

Of course not. The whole point is that it's generated off your unique phone for your unique phone and that's particularly why you must back it up.

I'm very new to Jailbreaking and looking forward to trying it on my iPhone 3GS, MC model, Bootrom 359.3. Have been researching for 3 days and it looks like I will have to wait.
Does anyone have any idea approximately how long it will take until their is a jailbreak version for my phone? I have the old bootrom while my roomate has the new bootrom 359.3.2. We both updated to Apples iOS 4.0 but were disappointed in missing features and multitasking is not as good as on a jailbroken device.

I have jailbroken my iPad and I'm loving it but I'm really looking forward to being able to tether my iPhone to my iPad.

Nevermind, I abandoned sn0wbreeze and used a friends mac and used dev team's Pwnage Tool 4.01 and it worked perfectly.
Sn0wbreeze would not work at all!

The new iBoot/MC model reference is misleading. I have a MC model, but it has the old iBoot.

The MC model only applies to Ipod Touches as per iH8sn0w

iH8sn0w: Again, The MC model Rule only applies to iPod Touches, NOT iPhones. If people can get this out there...

      Hello,
question: I have 3.1.2 but my SHSH are for 3.1.3. BUT!! I have the new iBoot, the fu"#$% 359.3.2. So, I can't restore right?

I mean I can't use sn0wbreeze to create an activated 3.1.3 firmware and restore it with itunes, can I?

      Thanks!

Hi guys just to let you know I opted to use a cooked ipsw and just restore from that as phone was already jailbroken. It took a very long time to then update my phone from the back up(hours) but I do have 20+ gb to load.

Nope, you should be waiting for a new tool.

Just to clarify, I have a 3GS 3.1.3 JB with Spirit. However, 3.1.2 SHSH stored in Cydia.

What do I do to update to OS 4?

which bootrom do you have? (did you need to connect your iphone to the computer on power when you were on 3.1.2)?

I have an MB, so I suppose it's the old one. I used blackrain with 3.1.2. When I upgraded to 3.1.3, I used Spirit. Now I'm confused on whether I can upgrade or not.

MB and MC are the rule for iPod Touch ONLY!

In case anyone is in a similar situation:

      iPhone 3GS
      MC Model
      Old Bootrom
      Firmware: 5.11.07
      Was running 3.1.2
Never been Jailbroken before so no SHSH files stored with Cydia/Saurik

I Jailbroke it running Redsn0w (leaving it on 3.1.2), then used Sn0wBreeze to update to iOS4.0.

Everything worked great and this 3GS is now Jailbroken running iOS4.0.

I think it was a little confuse on the first page listed as:
Iphone 3GS old bootrom (non MC model, not spirit). Pwntools only list 3GS old bootron (not spirit). Lots of people have old bootrom but MC model and I think you can jailbreak the old bootrom regardless of MC or MB model. Correct if I am wrong

Lots of information given by the author of Sn0wbreeze is either incomplete or just plain wrong. Which is why so many people lose their JB/unlock using it.
      I certainly wouldn't trust it.

And if I would like to upgrade it to 3.1.3, am I able to do that?

Can I use the shsh files to upgrade to stock 3.1.3?

I could do that if for example a new tool comes up and let me activate (like blackra1n)

Is it possible to do that?

You CANNOT use Sn0wBreeze on your new bootrom, also, if you want to use spirit, you should have activated your device first.
