  • Sn0wBreeze 1.6 Released : Jailbreak iOS 4 for Windows

Warning: Spirit Jailbreakers: Do Not Update while using the Spirit JB Exploit. Use RedSn0w, PwnageTool, or Sn0wBreeze to jailbreak first, and THEN you may use these new tools.

Yesterday we had the release of PwnageTool 4.01 for Mac, from the Dev-Team, which allowed you to make custom iOS 4 firmwares ready for jailbreaking. Only a day later, we now have Windows support for creating custom jailbroken firmwares, with Sn0wBreeze 1.6

Just like RedSn0w, you will have the additional functionality options for the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G, for multitasking and wallpapers. The same rules apply for Sn0wBreeze 1.6 as does PwnageTool. Certain devices are not supported. This is simply due to the fact that the hardware is not supported in iOS 4.0. The Phone 2G, iPod Touch, iPod Touch 3G are not supported. Neither is the iPhone 3GS with the new Bootrom, the MC models.

If you have an iPhone 3GS, Sn0wbreeze 1.6 only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom. If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak, then you can create the custom firmware with Sn0wbreeze 1.6 and restore this ipsw with your jailbroken iPhone, while in recovery mode.

If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3G at 3.1.2 (but not jailbroken with Spirit) then you can create the firmware with Sn0wBreeze and restore your iPhone 3G from recovery mode or DFU mode. If you have an out of the box iPhone 3G you should restore using a Sn0wbreeze's DFU mode. If you have a Jailbroken 3.1.3 iPhone 3G it is very possible that this can fail from recovery mode, if this failure happens you will need to restore using DFU mode.

Just like PwnageTool, you can add custom packages, which means you can include ultrasn0w along with the firmware so that you won't need Wi-Fi access to install it later. So basically everything that was offered on the Mac side with PwnageTool, is now available on the Windows side via Sn0wBreeze.

As an alternative to Sn0wbreeze 1.6, you can use redsn0w on iPhone 3G (on both Windows and Mac).

Let us recap real quick. Here is a list of supported devices:

iPhone 3GS (old bootrom, non MC model, not spirit jailbroken)
    iPhone 3G (might require DFU,)
iPod 2G (non MC model, not spirit jailbroken)

In almost every case, you need to be previously jailbroken except for the 3G, but you must NOT be jailbroken with Spirit (on 3.1.2 this might work, but 3.1.3 has issues).

Sorry guys, still no support for newer model iPhone 3GS. Stick to 3.1 for now.

I tried to use snowbreeze and ended up with a bunch of 1604 errors. tried to use pwnge tools on mac and still no luck. I went ahead and just updated iphone 3gs with old bootrom to 4.0. So should i just wait for a new jailbreak tool to come out?

Jrangel the way dev team usually works. their should be a 4.0 jailbreak official release in about 1-2months. and 3 months for the Iphone 4 jailbreak. thats how it went with 3GS when it first came out.

Here is my 3GS old bootrom upgraded to ios4 with G.O.C Pro Theme while openeing the new FOLDER option of icons. so cool lol

My Iphone 3G (05.13.04) was JB with Spirit. I did a complete reset and updated to 4.0, than JB with RedSnow 0.9.5b5-3. Everything works but my phone lags alot, when I use Cydia, sometimes the phone will reboot. Over all the phone is a lot slower, even when I free up the memory. Any advise? should I JB with SnowBreeze. The reason I upgraded to 4.0 was to unlock the phone to give to my son, when I get my new Iphone 4.

Ok, big problem. Let's see if any of you can solve this.

I have a 3gs with the old bootrom running 3.0 jailbroken with SHSH on file. I decided to give this jailbreak a shot. Tried making the custom firmware & upgrading, but I keep getting error messages (the most recent being 1600).

Now I can't upgrade to a jailbroken 4.0 and I'm stuck in recovery mode. Any thoughts on what to do?

Kick it out of recovery mode sort of the same way you got into it. Holding the power and home button. Then releasing the hoome button then the power once on.

Let it boot as normal and then just shift - click restore without it being in any mode ( as if it was on like normal). I got the 1600 too but this work fine for me.

Problem is, I never put it into recovery mode in the first place. I let iTunes do that :/

The regular routine isn't getting it out of restore mode. It's not booting as normal. I was pretty much at the end of the restore phase last time before any problem happened. I think I'm out of luck

EDIT: Nevermind, I got it. Went to 3.1.3, used snowbreeze, then upgraded to 4.0. Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

After a few hours of toying, I was able to get my 3GS(MC137LL) jailbroken. I was too lazy to read through the 30+ pages in this thread to see if anyone had any luck with the MC model 3GS's so I went ahead and did it anyway. I upgraded to 4.0(legit) then back down to 3.1.2(had the shsh on file). Blackra1ned the 3.1.2. I then used sn0wbreeze to create the 4.0 ipsw(no hacktivation), put the phone in recovery and restored using the custom ipsw. So far no problems. If this has already been posted for the MC 3GS models, please disregard this post!

So when I JB with snowbreeze my photos don't show up on the phone. iTunes says that about 1 gig is being used for photos, but my phone doesn't show them.

Sn0wBreeze gets to make the news page? As if it is a proper JB rather than than the piece of cr*p it is?
I use windows. I would not use this.
But then I like my phone to work.

Earlier I asked for help because when I tried to upgrade from 3.1.2 JB to 4.0 using snowbreeze, I would get an error (2), and the 3GS was stuck in recovery loop. I tried irecovery, and ireb, but to no avail. I tried deleting the 4.0 firmware, and deleting snowbreeze, and then redownloading, but no luck. I was completely stuck. I then tried to jailbreak on a friends Mac using redsnow, and the whole process took about three minutes. It saved me.
I tried to use snowbreeze on my wife's 3GS, and I got the same error. Then I did it on the Mac, and it worked fine. Just wanted to post my solution fo those who might have the same problem.

This thing is messed up. I tried snowbreeze for 3.1.3 and 4.0, but on both fws the iPhone couldn't sync. Whenever I tried syncing, iTunes froze up. I'm sure it's a problem with these custom fws and not with iTunes 9.2, as I synced just fine before using snowbreeze.

Also, my pictures are missing whenever I try 4.0. Waiting on redsnow...

I tried to shift restore in itunes after I created custom ipsw 4.0 with sn0wbreeze and I get error 1604 and iphone stuck on connect to itunes.
I have a 3g 8gb jailbroke with devteam's tool on custom ipsw 3.1.2 on 04.26.08 modem firmware with itunes 9.2.
      Why won't it restore???

Also, can I use redsn0w to do the same thing?
Use redsn0w, browse to custom ipsw 4.0 to upgrade my iphone and keep my 0.26.08 modem firmware?

You have to create the ipsw with dev teams tool. Not sure about redsn0w.
