Apparently, if you hold the iPhone 4 by the antenna band, you'll lose your bars, your reception, and maybe even your call. As this video making the rounds showcases, holding the handset with your fingers pressed upon the antenna throws off your cell reception and effectively reduces your bars all the way down, in some cases, to zero.
Of course, it isn't yet clear if the real issue relates to an inaccurate showing of bars or a significant problem with the actual antenna. But as thousands unbox their iPhone 4s and activate the long awaited updated smartphone, you may want to give your device the finger so to speak and play the home game version of this video demonstration.
But as Paul noted earlier in his piece "iPhone 4 Screen Defects Reported," in every new product, manufacturing defects are almost inevitable. So as scattered but undocumented complaints similarly surface, there's a good chance we'll know in the coming hours and days if this example is an isolated incident (and let's hope that it is)... or if this is the first real bug and potential nightmare for the 4th generation iPhone and its customers.
I think it's the proximity sensor twice while on a call my face hit the mute button and the speakerphone. It doesn't stay dark or freeze or anything else you mentioned.
mine stays dark after i pull the phone away from my face and i cant see the keypad etc or hang up
This is a little off topic, but can anyone get pornhub working on their iPhone 4? Maybe it has somthing to do with the antenna issue?
Pornhub, that sounds pretty cool. I wonder what its all about. LOL
No seriously, the only reason i'm getting an iPhone 4 is to view Pornhub on the astonishing retina display. Now i could look at ( . Y . ) 's in high def, For free!!!!!!
I have no issues with reception with or without a case. I got the case today from AT&T store. No yellow spots or any other visual defects. I did hit the mute, and speakerphone with my face. Seems like proximity sensor is a little touchy. Then one time while I was switching apps it looked like I had call with the green call glow up top. Then the call time minutes where just increasing pretty quickly by themselves. As soon as I exited app it stopped and disappeared. Now that was a little strange.
On a more positive note. I have had every new iPhone on the day of launch today was even better. By far this is the nicest looking one yet. With it's rectangle shape you have a much better grip. It does have more weight to it but it feels well made. Buttons feel sturdier and doesn't feel cheap at all.

i pre-ordered mine a week ago and i receive it on july 14th, hopefully there's no issues with my phone or ill be very upset. apple should not be having issues with their phones this early in the release of it. i mean their engineers are supposed to be some of the most genius people out there. how could a simple antennae problem slip by them? If apple knew about this problem the whole time and it is the true reason they are selling "bumpers", some type of lawsuit should be filed against them for selling a bogus product that they knew had problems in the first place. i just hope this isn't going to cause a mass recall, that would put a hurting on apple.
I was gonna call bs on this one, but it's happening to my phone. Guess that stolen iPhone at the bar wasent held right during the "test" phase. Everything else is great, and holding it with the left hand dosent seem to effect it.

Right on for the heads up. about the the weight from what i believe theyre the same?
This makes no sense at all. Remember when we all had those phones with retractable antenas? You could hold onto that all day and not get a dropped bar. And plus the antenas on the iPhone 4 go around the sides so you would have to be covering each antena 360 degrees. Also wouldn't you think that the reception would go through your hand or finger? And about this being not healthy: many people have their cellphones near their wastes twenty four seven. No science has proved anything to be dangerous about cellphones. Radiation exposure can result in some cancers but the radiation that ALL cellphones emit is nothing to worry about. It's too small to harm you.
