  • 'BadgeBoss' Lets you Configure the Style, Appearance, and Location of Your Badges

Your application icon notification badges are there to notify you when an application has an unread notification for you to see, but that little red bubble with the white number inside of it could look so much better with the options to change the style, appearance, and location of the notification badges on your application icons.

That's what a new jailbreak tweak called BadgeBoss by iOS developer Adam N. Smith aims to let you do. With this tweak, you will have full control over the color, badge text font, badge location, badge text, and more, as shown above.

The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure all of the various options:

The tweak can be enabled or disabled on demand from here. You can also enable or disable notification badges with the visibility option, which lets you show or hide application icon badges. Other options you will find here are the ability to choose a custom text for notification badges, configure the badge font, configure the background color of your badge, and configure the positioning of your application icon badge on the application icon.

When you try to change the font, you will be given a whole list of different fonts to pick from. When you go to change the color, you will be brought to a color picker with endless possibilities. The positioning feature lets you drag the application badge anywhere on the application icon to set it where you like it.

Coming in the future is the ability to set your own borders on the badges, transparency, and more.

The tweak compares to Boover, a free tweak that has many of the same features, but BadgeBoss feels more feature-filled. Justifying the price for BadgeBoss just depends on whether you want to have more features, or you can just live with the free offerings of Boover.

If you'd like to give BadgeBoss a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository for just a buck. The tweak does require iOS 7 to be installed.

This is a nice mod, but I still think Magic Badges, which is free, is better as you can design and use your own badges.
