  • iTunes 9.2 Released : Not Safe for Spirit Jailbreakers

While we had been under the impression that iTunes 9.2 would be released alongside iOS 4, it appears that Apple has already pushed the update for iTunes to the public, ahead of the scheduled release with iOS 4 on June 21st, 2010.

With this update comes some warning notes for the Jailbreak community, as iTunes 9.2 is not fully compatible with the recent Spirit Jailbreak tool. It is currently recommended to stay away from iTunes 9.2 all together unless you have the need to be on iOS 4 GM. If your not familiar with this, then stop what your doing and simply wait this one out.

If you have not yet jailbroken your device and have iTunes 9.2 installed already, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO JAILBREAK. Your device will go into an infinite boot loop.

If your iDevice is already jailbroken with Spirit prior to iTunes 9.2, then you shouldn't have any problems, but we still recommend to stay away from this update for now. Comex is aware of this and is looking into the issue further to see if he can't patch things up. Patience my friends.

IF your using tools other than Spirit, The iPhone Dev Team has confirmed there are no problems with PwnageTool or RedSn0w with the new iTunes 9.2. So those are you best bet for jailbreaking tools if your already on iTunes 9.2 and need to jailbreak.

I have my iPod Touch 3G on 3.1.3 with Spirit Jailbreak. I have iTunes 9.2 downloaded. Being that I already have my device jailbroken, WILL I LOOP MY DEVICE IF I SYNC IT RIGHT NOW?

I didn't see anyone else state ask a question as direct as this, so I just want to be 100% sure my iPod will not be messed up.

Not that anyone would really care, but for me at 3.1.3 (9.1x itunes) bb 5.12.01, JB with Spirit, I'm going to restore my phone today to unjb it with my shsh bloobs, upgrade to 9.2 itunes, and do the firmware update today also when released.

Then I'm just going to use an unjailbroken phone until the new jb version is releaseed. If it's not going to be able to be jailbroken at that point, is where I move on. If I can't use the latest version of ios4 with the latest bb and such, I'm done. If that were the case, there would be no jb at all for the new phones and we all know that that will not be the case.

At least, using an unjailbroken phone for a bit, will remind me how awful it is to live without once you've had it. And if I can't have it with the latest, I'm done. Just me .02.

I have to return my iPad for warranty, and I've updated my iTunes already, so I'm a bit frustrated as to what to do here exactly...

now, if I connect to a 9.1 iTunes and do the Spirit JB there, I can then go back to my 9.2 iTunes and continue jailbroken...?

I just can't use 9.2 to DO the jailbreak, correct...?

      So confusing =/

For anyone mistakenly upgraded to iTunes 9.2 using Spirit Jailbreak, here's a tutorial and files for downgrading back to 9.1.1 under PC and Macs.

For me, I am going to unjailbreak my phone (spirit), then upgrade to itunes 9.2 then upgrade to iOS4. Once there, I'm assuming that something will eventually be available, hopefully soon with windows that will work with the resultant bb 5.13.xx as well as iOS4.

I need to to this as i use an app from the apple store that needs iOS4. It's so difficult to use or even look at an un-jb phone once you've done and used one.

So if I updated iTunes to 9.2 to put the iOS4 on my ipod touch jailbroken with blackra1n does this mean I can't plug my iphone jailbroken with spirit into this computer?

      I just got my first iphone \0/ 3GS 16GB

Before I saw this thread I

      -upgraded to itunes 9.2
-denied the request to update to iOS 4 (it came on 3.1.3)
-restored phone to 3.1.3 using tinyumbrella sever with my shsh files
      -broke with spirit jailbreak

all seems to work fine and sync's ok...maybe lucky?

only thing i had to fix was to go into cyndia via cyberduck (ssh) and delete updates file in cydia because it was crashing

This is a sweet new forum to go with my sweet new iphone!

I panicked after reading that 9.2 doesnít work with the Spirit JB so I deleted the iTunes app from the Applications folder right away. I have a copy of all my apps, music and videos and Iím not really concerned about all the backing up iTunes and stuff. Iím lost on what to do next now, though. Please help. (

google is your friend. I've seen several blogs/articles about how to downgrade to itunes 9.1 from 9.2

It seems like it to be straightforward, making sure that certain extra folders are deleted and such. Shouldn't be too hard to find on google.

I did Google. All the instructions has the step about killing the iTuneshelper in the Activity Monitor and deleting other stuff. The iTuneshelper process isn't the Activity Monitor anymore when I checked. And I think, since I deleted the iTunes app itself, all these other files that need to be deleted are gone already, too.

All I want to know now is that do I just reinstall with 9.1 or are there stuff that I still have to delete before I do.

I just uninstalled 9.2 and installed 9.1, no problems at all. I don't get where the issues are?

Yes, I had to redo my Genius and Library settings, but all my apps were there, all my settings were fine.

Hey, ummmm I updated to iTunes 9.2 a while back and in fact my iPod Touch 2nd Gen MC Model is jailbroken with Sprit and I copied a video onto my iPod, and everything seems to be working fine. Will anything happen to my iPod?

Start it booting then wait until the battery dies, you should see the red flashing battery. Put it into dfu mode beholding power and home buttons for 8 secs then let go of power and continue holding home button for another 8 secs. Plug into iTunes and restore! It will say it has found an iPod in recovery mode. And I hope you backed it up recently :S
