  • iTunes 9.2 Released : Not Safe for Spirit Jailbreakers

While we had been under the impression that iTunes 9.2 would be released alongside iOS 4, it appears that Apple has already pushed the update for iTunes to the public, ahead of the scheduled release with iOS 4 on June 21st, 2010.

With this update comes some warning notes for the Jailbreak community, as iTunes 9.2 is not fully compatible with the recent Spirit Jailbreak tool. It is currently recommended to stay away from iTunes 9.2 all together unless you have the need to be on iOS 4 GM. If your not familiar with this, then stop what your doing and simply wait this one out.

If you have not yet jailbroken your device and have iTunes 9.2 installed already, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO JAILBREAK. Your device will go into an infinite boot loop.

If your iDevice is already jailbroken with Spirit prior to iTunes 9.2, then you shouldn't have any problems, but we still recommend to stay away from this update for now. Comex is aware of this and is looking into the issue further to see if he can't patch things up. Patience my friends.

IF your using tools other than Spirit, The iPhone Dev Team has confirmed there are no problems with PwnageTool or RedSn0w with the new iTunes 9.2. So those are you best bet for jailbreaking tools if your already on iTunes 9.2 and need to jailbreak.

Not sure if this is a correct statement....

I downloaded 9.2 when it became available after the iOS 4 presentation. My iPad is jailbroken and have had no issues. My 3GS is running iOS 4GM but it is not jailbroken at this time.
      Thank you

What about 9.2 beta. Will that work for the Spirit jailbreak?

I can confirm that the 9.2 beta DOES work with Spirit JB. I literally just got home from the Apple Store with a refurbished iPhone 3GS with 3.1.3 installed and ran Spirit a few minutes ago (with iTunes 9.2 beta installed) and everything on my iPhone is good to go - fully jailbroken. I have been using 9.2 beta since it was released last week and I've had no problems syncing my iPad to it either. Both my iPhone 3GS and iPad are jailbroken using Spirit JB.

      Recap:
      - MBP running 10.6.3
      - iTunes 9.2 beta
      - iPhone 3GS with 3.1.3 preinstalled and ran Spirit JB (for first time on this iPhone) with iTunes 9.2 beta installed
      - iPad with 3.2 and previously jailbroken with Spirit JB and iTunes 9.1.1 still syncs under iTunes 9.2 beta.

Bone stock 3.1.3 3gs. Installed 9.2 (windows) then installed os4gm. Works fine. Seems really fast now. Really.

I will have an iPad tomorrow but I have already upgraded with 9.2 windows.
If I jailbreak with Spirit and with another pc with iTunes 9.1, and then I connect the Ipad on my own pc with 9.2, it should work, right ?

It will be just fine. I got 9.1 on my laptop and used spirit to jailbreak my ipad and than I got desktop with 9.2 and sync is working great.

Hm...I wonder if this has any connection to the tendency for phones jailbroken with Spirit to get stuck in a reboot loop after a kernel panic? It seems pretty consistent; I've had to restore twice in the last 6 weeks, both times being immediately after the very first kernel panic I got since my last restore. Unless there's something drastically new I don't know here, this is not expected behavior, since a kernel panic should just cause the phone to reboot as normal. I certainly never had this problem when I used pwnage.

      Anyone else had this problem?

How do I update from iTunes 9.2 beta on my mac? The software update does not push the release 9.2 iTunes to me. Also is anyone else finding iOS 4.0 GM is slowing down their iPhone 3G a lot? Any solutions?

Sorry to hear that. I just used the Stealthbravo Custom FW cause mine is officially unlocked.
It works like a charm. Sbsettings is good on the 4.0.

      apple.com/itunes ?

Question but after you put the restore with custom FW what is your baseband and also did it open up right away or did it look for activation with itunes.
