  • AT&T Now CANCELING Confirmed Pre-Orders

iPhonepocalypse just went to the next level.

We just got a message from a reader who received an email from AT&T canceling his iPhone 4 pre-order. The customer had placed his order yesterday and received a confirmation number in email. However, today he got an auto-generated email from AT&T claiming that they were "unable to verify" his information "or you have exceeded the number of lines of service that we allow customers to purchase online." A call to AT&T confirmed that they are doing this to other customers.

    The email reads as follows:

    Dear xxxxxxxxxx

    Thank you for choosing AT&T.

Unfortunately, we were either unable to verify the information you provided or you have exceeded the number of lines of service that we allow customers to purchase online. As a result, your order has been canceled.

If you would like to purchase additional lines of service, please visit one of our AT&T retail locations and present your identification to our representatives. They will be happy to help you purchase new wireless devices, accessories, and service.

Go to att.com/storelocator to find a store near you.

We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to serving you.

    Thank you.

    AT&T
Haven't gotten a response from AT&T on a request for comment.

Kyle just told me he got the same email.

This is ugly and getting uglier by the minute.

this is by far the worst debacle. i'm not sure how people can stand by AT&T's side after this horrible aftermath. There's no way in hell a company can operate by this standard. AT&T should be crucified for the amount of trouble they've caused. Knowing full well they had to fulfill orders for the entire nation, their systems should've been up to standards to accept a qualified amount of orders acceptable to supply amounts.

How unprofessional. *shakes head* Sorry for all of you that got your orders cancelled. Hopefully AT&T will do something for you.

i just knew that ordering with att would be a mess. I chose to do business direct with apple. i mean why not its their products... i called and changed my address to ship to work and not home... they are so pleasant at apple.

I cant blame AT&T when we can't even compare Apples to Apples. If two or more carriers had iPhone and only one carrier's website crashed, then I'd blame AT&T. 600,000 orders in one day - no website can handle.

The problem was that Apple's site failed and therefore everyone ordered via AT&T and crashed their site

Apple was over zealous on that launch date.

So he placed a second order. That order wound up being cancelled once the system caught up with itself and processed the first order.

He called AT&T and was told the first order went through, and received a confirmation number. The second order was cancelled.

      Sheesh.

Yes, it is, because it was AT&T's system that was unprepared for the demand and went *** over elbows.
Same here. Kept trying and timing out after pressing the purchase button. Got 2 cancellation emails, but the third order went through.

I tried pre ordering from the apple store tuesday morning around 3am, servers were down. I am glad it didn't go through with all the security breaches happening with ATT... Then I made a reservation from the APPLE STORE APP and I had no problems, I even received a confirmation that I was able to to pick it up on the 24th from my local Apple store,,, hopefully I will not have any issues.

A lot of good it did for AT&T to bump everyone's upgrade eligibility dates.

Haha.. Nicee.. I was thinking about going thru BB but when I talked to them, they just seemed really shady about everything that I was asking so i opted out..

I bet people would die for your 2 reserved ones tho LOL

I pre-ordered yesterday (only once), got a confirmation page with a confirmation number, but today got the email saying the order was cancelled, with no explanation. (I was eligible for an upgrade, have only 2 lines and credit card is fine).

Now I can't even try to pre-order again since their pathetic system seems to think I already upgraded.

They stated that they would honor the pre-orders made yesterday, so that's a blatant lie if they're canceling them.
