  • AT&T Now CANCELING Confirmed Pre-Orders

iPhonepocalypse just went to the next level.

We just got a message from a reader who received an email from AT&T canceling his iPhone 4 pre-order. The customer had placed his order yesterday and received a confirmation number in email. However, today he got an auto-generated email from AT&T claiming that they were "unable to verify" his information "or you have exceeded the number of lines of service that we allow customers to purchase online." A call to AT&T confirmed that they are doing this to other customers.

    The email reads as follows:

    Dear xxxxxxxxxx

    Thank you for choosing AT&T.

Unfortunately, we were either unable to verify the information you provided or you have exceeded the number of lines of service that we allow customers to purchase online. As a result, your order has been canceled.

If you would like to purchase additional lines of service, please visit one of our AT&T retail locations and present your identification to our representatives. They will be happy to help you purchase new wireless devices, accessories, and service.

Go to att.com/storelocator to find a store near you.

We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to serving you.

    Thank you.

    AT&T
Haven't gotten a response from AT&T on a request for comment.

Kyle just told me he got the same email.

This is ugly and getting uglier by the minute.

I'm glad I decided to wait. I have to work the day it comes out anyways, so I am gonna wait a few weeks and make sure the phone doesn't have any issues.

Anybody stop to think that the reason att is canceling their orders is because of the reason the email says. Maybe they have some security flag, and these people need to provide further information.

I agree att had a fail with the preorder system, but these cancellations seem to me like they are routine. I would be willing to bet any of these people that have received this email would have gotten the same thing if they would have tried to order any other phone online. I don't think this is a system error.

I personally went into a retail store to preorder mine. Everything went smooth. They did verify my ID and needed multiple signatures...maybe this is why they are rejecting some online orders. Have those of you getting rejections ever been to a store?

I was with T-Mobile but as soon as I found out about iPhone 4 I was going back to AT&T. Then I found out AT&T was making changes to their data plans, eliminating unlikited data after June 7th I believe. What I did was I went there on the 5th got iPhone 3GS with unlim data. knowing I have 30 day to return & exchange which they granted. I pre ordered mine on the 15th at 7:30pm AT&T store. They took my debit card info and told me they wont charge me until the phone is shipped. Once the phone arrives at the store ill get a call from them. I then have to give my 3gs back then theyll give me $180 back...and i get iphone 4...

Reason why im sayin all this is because i just called att store and spoke to well informed att manager who told me if you have a receipt you can pick it up on 24th. These phones will be kept back and cannot be sold to others. He told me as long as i have the receipt they will have it ready on the 24th. People with receipts will be taken care of before any new customers waiting in line. So if you have your receipt go straight up to them. Do not wait in line.

I am soooo glad I didn't pre-order. The launch gives me an excuse to be off from work. LOL. I have a reservation at Apple, but I might hit Wal-Mart or Bedt Buy instead this go around.

I just pulled up the Apple store app on my iPhone and clicked the preorder link and it doesn't have anything on it. I guess they really did close pre-orders.

att licks nut sack! the parrot att reseller in my area is simply making a list and will offer people on the list dibs and then first come basis for the fools in line...

another reason why apple should go with more than one provider..

Either you pressed the reserve buttom or Apple gave you the option to only reserve. There's no payment enter nor obligation to buy it. It's just a reserve confirmation. I did my the same way and I didn't mind picking mines since my closest apple store is 5 minutes away however I don't know what will be the waiting time just to pick it up. I hope it won't be a jungle.

      Pickup Date and Time

Please note that your reservation will be held until close of business on June 24." but there hasn't been any charge on my credit card and I don't even remember entering any payment... And the problem is I wanted to upgrade but inthe email it says 699 not 299. Anyone ordered from app store? Thank you

This just in from my BB nerd.

I was just wondering. I went into the Vacaville,CA store yesterday and placed my pre-order for an iphone 4,(black 32GB). I was one of the first handful of people to place the pre-order, and I got the gift card. I have been hearing that there is a VERY limited number of phones alloted to each store. Do you perchance have any info on that?
      1:48 PM ****:
If you have one pre-ordered you are lucky. We aren't pre-ordering anymore
      1:49 PM ****:
But you have one and not many people were that lucky
      1:50 PM :
That is what I have heard. The girl at the store had a folder with a page for each iteration of the phone. I was third on the list for the 32GB black. Do you know if each store will get that many at least on the 24th?
      1:51 PM ****:
      NO I do not
      1:52 PM :
Do you know if the original plan of having pre-ordered phones on hand for customer pick-up on the 24th is still the plan?
      1:52 PM ****:
This plan is still in effect for those who did the pre-order
      1:53 PM :
Thank you. I guess that only goes for those who ordered black though right?
      1:54 PM ****:
      There were some white pre-orders
      1:54 PM ****:
      But yes for either
      1:54 PM :
True. But the white ones won't be out until August.

I ordered mine yesterday around 5 central time. got confirmation number and a email this morning stating everything was a go. Also because all this talk about being on hold I called att and talked to a manager she looked it up for me and she said yep will ship on time.

I don't know how much you can trust individual AT&T reps these days. I mean they were ALL saying white iPhones will be available for pre-order literally hours before we found out the opposite

So he placed a second order. That order wound up being cancelled once the system caught up with itself and processed the first order.

      Sheesh.

Yes, it is, because it was AT&T's system that was unprepared for the demand and went *** over elbows.
was about to post the exact same thing..

I was 5th in line at my local best buy, i called today and they are being really vague about it all. Makes you wonder. I heard originally that Best Buy's were getting somewhere between 20-25 each.

I have a worse debacle than all of you.

I bought my 3G on release date. I was eligible to upgrade the following year in late september or something.

When the 3GS came out, ATT bumped people up to release date eligibility if their contract ended before september, which I was conveniently 1 month outside. A few months later, come september, I was eligible and upgraded.

This year, I have my 3GS, but my eligibility isn't until Febuary so again I don't qualify for the damn 6 month bump. Every time I call ATT and ask them for any solution I'm told it's Apple's fault and to sod off. I decided this year that I'm early upgrading on release day so when they do this bump sh!t again, I'm within the bracket.. then this preorder BS happens and I can't even order on release day!

I even asked if I could preorder for July 2nd via Apple since that's currently possible, as an early upgrade to avoid my 2 month lag and be within the bumpup bracket next year, and then have them backdate my contract renewal to June 24th. He said no, they won't even adjust my contract starting date.

This time though, the manager said something else:

In fall, ATT will no longer have exclusivity of the iPhone. There was no "may" or "might" involved here. Verizon is making their own and it will be available next year.

I'm more of a skeptic than any of you, and hate this stupid rumor crap, but during a heated debate with a manager I basically dragged this information out of him, and this is the first instance I actually believe it. He claims the pandemonium that is the iPhone release will not even occur next year and there will be no contract bump-up, because it will be split between 2 carriers.

This puts a whole 'nother spin on whether I want the iPhone 4 now or not, or ever from ATT. I have even more to think about now.

inb4 "not this bs again", but this guy believes it now. You heard it here (for real) first.

I'm glad you people are seeing ATT's true colors. When things get tough, they bail on their customers. I will never do business with AT&T because of what they did to me in the past.
My iphone has always been with T-mobile since the 3G days. I only wish Apple would release a T-mobile version of the iphone soon.
