  • New Video Demos Split-screen Multitasking in iOS 8 on iPad

A couple of days ago, iOS developer Steven Troughton-Smith confirmed that iOS 8 indeed includes code allowing for split-screen multitasking on the iPad the feature is currently in testing and was not ready to be demoed at the WWDC 2014 Keynote presentation.

On Wednesday, Troughton-Smith published a YouTube video demoing how the feature would work in terms of re-sizing windows to make way for split-screen multitasking on the iPad. The demo shows how the windows can be pulled on to shrink or expand the application to 100% mode, 75% mode, 50% mode, or 25% mode in relation to the whole display. You can view the video demonstration below:

It would appear from the white dots that appear as the developer swipes across the screen that performing these actions will require two-finger gestures. The applications can be shrunken or expanded one step at a time, preventing unwanted over-shrinking or over-expansion.

One thing the video doesn't show us yet is two applications running side-by-side, but at least it gives us the ability to see the applications being size-controlled.

As we mentioned in our original post about the feature, it's expected that the feature would be limited to the iPad Air initially and may become available on other devices in the future. It's unknown if the feature will be made available in one of the betas leading up to the public release this Fall, or if Apple will wait for a later release of iOS 8 to finally make it available.

Are you impressed with the feature thus far?
