Every stock iOS 7 Lock Screen is the same... slide to the right to unlock. Boring!
With a new jailbreak tweak called Genie by iOS developer Phillip Tennen, you can choose how you will unlock your iOS 7 Lock Screen. It gives you many new gestures to choose from so that you can unlock your Lock Screen in your own way.
Not only is this a nice customization aspect for your device's Lock Screen, but it can also be considered a type of security for your Lock Screen since you're the only one that knows the gesture that you set for unlocking your Lock Screen.
The tweak gives you a number of new gestures to pick from including:
- Left swipe
- 2-finger left swipe
- 2-finger right swipe
- 3-finger left swipe
- 3-finger right swipe
- Double tap
- Triple tap
- Upwards swipe
- 2-finger upwards swipe
- 3-finger upwards swipe
- Downwards swipe
- 2-finger downwards swipe
- 3-finger downwards swipe
A preferences pane for the tweak is added to your Settings application so you can configure the gesture that you want to use, and more:
Other options to can configure include enabling or disabling the tweak on demand, enable or disable the usual slide right to unlock gesture, and enable or disable allowing your secret gesture to bypass the Lock Screen passcode (if you have one set).
This is definitely a neat tweak, and if you have a passcode and have been looking for a quick and easy way to unlock your device while still keeping others out, this is worth trying. If you'd like to give Genie a try, it's available right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository for 99¢. It requires iOS 7 to be installed.
