MacBook Air SMC Update Released by Apple
A new system management controller (SMC) for the MacBook Air line of ultra portables was released by Apple recently. The update targets the issue relating to battery drain experienced by users using mid-2013 MacBook Air models. The release notes issued by Apple notes that the SMC Update version 2.0 fixes a power handling issue found in the MacBook Air models for mid-2013.
Various threads on Apple’s Support Communities forum were talking about this unexpected issue and according to the notes, it specifically addresses a problem that “may cause the battery to drain faster than expected when the lid is closed." One of the discussions found on the thread suggested that this problem was iOS related. Version 1.9 of the MacBook Air SMC Update was released last October, and it patched the issue of batteries that unexpectedly stop working or was unable to be recognized by the system.
The MacBook Air SMC 2.0 update is 804KB and can be downloaded from Apple’s support website. It also requires OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and later, or OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 and later to run.
