ih8sn0w Updates p0sixspwn Jailbreak Tool With Support for iOS 6.1.6
Back in February, iOS hacker ih8sn0w released an updated version of his p0sixspwn untether package
in Cydia to make it so that those on iOS 6.1.6 that jailbroke tethered with redsn0w could make their jailbreak untethered. He also noted how updating the standalone tools wasn't a very high priority at the time.
On Sunday, the hacker updated his standalone p0sixspwn jailbreak tools for Mac OS X and Windows to version 1.0.8 so that users can jailbreak iOS 6.1.6 without the need to jailbreak tethered with redsn0w first. This should be convenient to those with devices that have broken Home or Power buttons that are unable to enter DFU mode to jailbreak.
P0sixspwn version 1.0.8 also fixes a crashing issue with iTunes 11.1 and later.
iOS 6.1.6 was released alongside iOS 7.0.6 by Apple to fix a nasty SSL connection verification bug that could leave users' data vulnerable. iOS 6.1.6 was only released for the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4G, however. Newer devices are stuck with iOS 7.0.6, which is jailbreakable with evasi0n7
. Any firmware later than that has yet to have a public jailbreak at this point in time.
