  • ih8sn0w Updates p0sixspwn Jailbreak Tool With Support for iOS 6.1.6

Back in February, iOS hacker ih8sn0w released an updated version of his p0sixspwn untether package in Cydia to make it so that those on iOS 6.1.6 that jailbroke tethered with redsn0w could make their jailbreak untethered. He also noted how updating the standalone tools wasn't a very high priority at the time.

On Sunday, the hacker updated his standalone p0sixspwn jailbreak tools for Mac OS X and Windows to version 1.0.8 so that users can jailbreak iOS 6.1.6 without the need to jailbreak tethered with redsn0w first. This should be convenient to those with devices that have broken Home or Power buttons that are unable to enter DFU mode to jailbreak.

P0sixspwn version 1.0.8 also fixes a crashing issue with iTunes 11.1 and later.

iOS 6.1.6 was released alongside iOS 7.0.6 by Apple to fix a nasty SSL connection verification bug that could leave users' data vulnerable. iOS 6.1.6 was only released for the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4G, however. Newer devices are stuck with iOS 7.0.6, which is jailbreakable with evasi0n7. Any firmware later than that has yet to have a public jailbreak at this point in time.

If you would like to grab the latest version of p0sixspwn for your older iOS device(s), you can follow the download links below:

Another advantage to this jailbreak is that you don't need the 6.0 ipsw. I had given up on waiting for it to be updated. Thanks for keeping track of this.

Now I can restore my iOS 6 device that I keep for testing purposes without having to worry about going through Redsn0w or keeping both the 6.0 and 6.1.6 ipsw's on my disk.

As I cant downgrade to IOS6 how is this good or anyone? You also cant reinstall IOS's so absolutely useless to anyone not already on that firmware and if you are on that firmware still WHY? Well as IOS7 sucks I can see why your still there but I think there will be more people wanting a IOS7.1 jailbreak than any IOS6.x jailbreak.

iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4G can't run iOS 7. The latest firmware they can run is iOS 6.1.6. So this isn't particularly made for you. It's made for those with legacy devices that can't run iOS 7 that still want a jailbreak.
