A couple of days ago, we showed you a free jailbreak tweak called DefaultSpot
by iOS developer Ron Thakrar that would make Spotify the default media player on your iOS device. Unfortunately, if you're not using Spotify, then the tweak serves almost no meaningful purpose for you.
Fortunately, Thakrar has just released a new free jailbreak tweak called DefaultPlayer
, which allows you to choose any media player on your iOS device to be your default. Like DefaultSpot, this tweak will also integrate with Control Center.
DefaultPlayer will add a preferences pane to your Settings application so that you can choose the media player that you want to be your default, and so that you can configure a couple of additional options:
You will be able to enable or disable the tweak on demand, as well as pick the application that you want to use from an installed application list. In addition, you can choose whether or not the application can launch in the background whether the device is locked or not (an additional jailbreak tweak called Background Manager
may be required for this if the application doesn't already support this).
There are plenty of media application options out there apart from Spotify, such as Pandora, Rdio, and Grooveshark. There are plenty of others too.
If you would like to give DefaultPlayer a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. iOS 7 required for the install and the tweak will work on both 32-bit and 64-bit iOS devices including the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
