  • Apple Giving iPhone Hackers The Boot from iTunes?

Twitter is telling the whole story tonight. The popular social networking site is the place where several iPhone hackers are revealing how they were unceremoniously given the boot by Apple from the iTunes App Store. It signals what some say is a sweeping ban of known iPhone hackers by Cupertino in the latest attempt to discourage hackers from doing what they do best.

Does the name Sherif Hashim ring a bell? He's the iPhone dev who has successfully mounted more than one hack job on the iPhone OS. Today on his Twitter, Hashim told the tale of his iTunes dismissal by Apple.

"Your Apple ID was banned for security reasons", that's what i get when i try to go to the app store, they must be really angry ))))
Apple, as we know, is stepping up efforts to crack down on iPhone hackers. From hiring personnel reportedly devoted exclusively to ridding the world of iPhone hackers, to these latest repudiations of accomplished hackers, there's no telling what (or who) may be on Cupertino's "most wanted" list. In addition to Mr. Hashim, fellow hacker - code name iH8Sn0w - similarly posted on Twitter (in response to Hashim's tweet) that he also got busted by Apple.

@sherif_hashim lol, they did that to my ih8sn0wyday[@t]googmail.com too. (right after I posted XEMN)...
If Apple really has launched an all-out offensive against iPhone hackers, the ban will likely fall on more than just these two. And I'm sure Twitter will remain the place to follow Apple's newest casualties as they are booted one by one from iTunes.

I can poke a major hole in this method of pissing us off. All that is going to happen is more people are going to host sources giving off free stuff, and more people will JB to stop paying for things.

Although it has to be said, what kind of idiot uses the same email for an iTunes account, and a helpline for people wanting to hack their iDevices :P

Jima6636 didnt get that thou, he got "This Apple ID has been disabled cause jima6636 is an iPhone ninja"

if i get banned from the app store, its apple's problem, not mine. A large amount of jailbreakers will most likely resort to piracy if they end up banned, not because they don't want to pay, but because they dont have a choice!

I guess I am a hacker too, my account was also disabled for security reasons, I rest the password and I think I am back in now. I guess I have been promoted from Joe Blow to hacker, I have to pick a cool name maybe J03 B70w.

because of pirates. I also pirated apps, but i try to buy them when i can. I'm only getting 8hours a week of minimum wage, so thats why i say when i can. In fact apple might be looking out for the more small fry developers that are just trying make some money from their hard work.
You don't HAVE to buy them, you know.

I think the cracking people just came out with some new and easy way to get that stuff, not entirely sure, but I read an article about it in some newspaper that it's supposedly a big deal, well, if I get the ban hammer, I might have to look into that :-) I have no problem paying for the apps that I have now, but if they don;t want me to pay, well, that's fine with me :-)

Piracy doesn't really harm anyone if you think about it.
If I downloaded a cracked app, I wouldn't have downloaded it in the first place from the App Store.

Every other hacker isn't banned from App Store. Geohot isn't and if Apple wanted to, I bet they could find his ID through his credit card details. This guy isn't in the piracy scene either so I can't think why he got banned.

Piracy does harm others and should not be done.

But Sherif Hashim is not a pirate.

Well apple gets a cut from every app sold. If people are pirating apps, then apple isn't getting their cut. With so many apps, that could be significant.

^Yeh but most of them pirates wouldn't have bought the app in the first place so Apple wouldn't have got that money either way.

It is wrong though...but very tempting when you don't have to pay.
So if this guy got banned for the 3.1.3 exploit, where is the 3.1.3 jailbreak?

Pirating is not at all tempting - unless you are a thief.

He found an exploit in BB 05.12.01 which could potentially lead to an unlock. Nothing to do with Jailbreaking or pirating.

It doesn't take a hacker to get by this ban. If it was just an email ban, then change it.

But because it wasn't and was also a CC ban, just:
      • Use your spouses card
      • Use a freaking moneycard from walmart
      • cancel your card and order a new replacement card

      Not that hard ya kno?

For a hacker this would be a challenge is all I am saying, hell if he wants to he can probably get by all this without getting new card and stuff. Maybe piss Apple even more by hacking more than before.

Dude, you have no idea what context the word "hacker" is being mentioned in.

He is a iPhone code hacker. He finds exploits in iPhone code to create jailbreaks and unlocks.

He doesn't "crack" into itunes.com or itunes store or anything like that.

      Get a clue.
