  • RockApp Update Brings SSH Security: Another Reason To Use RockApp

I just noticed an update to the RockApp and after installing, and rebooting, I was prompted by RockApp with a note that told me my SSH Password was still at the default of 'alpine' and that I should change my password immediately. (I just restored recently and had not done this yet)

After accepting the pop-up, I was able to enter in a new password. I was then informed that the password had been successfully changed.

Most of you have probably already changed your passwords by now, but if you haven't, this is possibly the easiest way to do so without entering the terminal.

Not only does this update bring an easy way to change your SSH Password, I believe this is another huge step forward for RockApp and another reason you should use both Cydia AND RockApp. I am starting to use RockApp more and more, and the stability just keeps getting better and better.

You can already do this with terminal. What a crappy selling point to get people to install their stupid app. They have no sens of community and the apps they sell don't follow MobileSubstrate. Fail.

Bah you!!!!......Its not a gimmick to get you to install...you would already have to have it installed to get the message!!! I love Cydia....but have recently downloaded Rock App...and I must say that the pro's to have it is awesome...fast load and update compared to Cydia!.....Will I uninstall cydia..no, but to disrespect Rock like you did is absurd!

Special thanks to Saurik and the makers of Rock to bring "choice" to my iPhone!!!

      Peace Out!!!

This isn't a selling point. They are just trying to help their users who were previously unaware of the exploit and/or how to rectify it. How does this move by them in anyway suggest they are working against the "community"? Better still, why must they only distribute apps that rely upon mobile substrate? They felt the need to create rock extensions and that in no way inhibits mobile substrate. I use Rock AND Cydia. They both have their strong points. I also disable rock extensions because I don't run any apps that require it, and I see no need to enable it until I do so. I find myself using Rock most of the time because it's faster and the convenience of their built in backup is awesome. AptBackup, in my experience, does not backup my user added sources, but Rock does. That having been said I can't find anywhere to check the change logs for updated apps in Rock, so I use Cydia for that. I also use Cydia to search for, dare I say it, cracked Cydia/Rock apps, because Rock hides those from the search, and can only be found by checking each of my added sources.

Point being: both are good, neither one is perfect, and they both have their uses, and as such both have a permanent place on my home screen. Enough said!

Prob because rock bricked your phone,...lol

Rock is asking to change the "mobile" user password, not "root". And if Rock had bricked your phone, it wouldn't be asking for anything. Geez...

They have no sense of community? What are you even talking about? Clearly you've never used the app.

RockApp has the ability to leave reviews and comments on apps, even Cydia apps. Possibly the closest you get to a community that is integrated into an installer. Cydia does not offer this.

However, RockApp is not meant to replace Cydia you guys! It's not a battle between the two. The store may compete, as far as how they handle commission and such, but the two are separate and BOTH are useful in combination.

Cydia will get an update in the future to do the same types of things but we just have to patient for that. In the mean time, RockApp provides some great solutions to areas that Cydia misses and therefore they work hand in hand.

      haha nope. fail.

RockApp is simply running a script to see if the word alpine is already being used as a password. If it is, it simply automates the same process you do in terminal to change it.

On second thought.. Quick!!! Turn your iPhone off! RockApp is out to get you! Uh-Oh.

      Stop being so paranoid.
