  • 'Longer Message' Adds More Readable Lines to the Lock Screen and Notification Center


    One of the terrible parts of the iOS notification system is the limit to how many lines of text you can see from an incoming text message or iMessage notification via the Lock Screen or Notification Center.

    For those situations where you have read receipts enabled and you don't want to go into the Messages application to see more of your message content, you can use a new free jailbreak tweak called Longer Message by iOS developer Plop_90 to see more lines of your message notification content right from the Lock Screen or Notification Center without ever having to worry about tripping your read receipt for the sender.

    It's also great for the casual convenience of just being able to see your messages at a glance without digging into your phone, which is great for social events where you don't want to appear rude by dividing your attention between talking to someone and putting a long passcode into your device to see the rest of the message.

    Longer Message will make it so you can manually configure the maximum number of lines of text message/iMessage text that are allowed to display on both the Lock Screen and in Notification Center individually. As shown above, Apple defaults to only letting you see four lines of each message at a time, but Longer Message will let you have much, much more than that.

    The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can easily configure how many lines of text that you want to have for either the Lock Screen or for Notification Center:



    You can choose between setting any of the following as the maximum number of lines of text allowed to be displayed for each:

    Each time you make changes to the tweak, you will want to respring to make sure your setting changes take effect. Unfortunately, no respring button is included, so you'll have to find your own respring method.

    The developer notes that Longer Message works with some other applications as well, but not all of them (this appears to be out of his control and depends on the application). On the other hand, the tweak was mostly intended for the Messages application in iOS, and it works very well with that in mind.
