  • 'Blur Remover' Replaces Translucency with Transparency in iOS 7

In iOS 7, a number of features in the operating system consist of a blur effect that gives the interface a see-through style. Unfortunately, the blur effect uses a good hunk of your system resources. And for those of you that don't really like blurs, you're stuck with Apple's choice to blur everything like crazy in iOS 7.

A new free jailbreak tweak called Blur Remover by iOS developer pw5a29 is now available for free in Cydia's ModMyi repository that lets you do away with the blur effects in iOS 7. It replaces the translucency in many interfaces with the preferred look of transparency.

Shown above, you can see a few examples of how this works. The three examples we give you are the passcode screen in iOS 7, the folders in iOS 7, and the dock in iOS 7. Before the tweak is installed, you can see that there is a blur in those interfaces, but after the tweak, you can see that the blur isn't there anymore and you can see quite clearly through the interfaces.

Blur Remover adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure the blur amount for both Notification Center and Control Center:

When you change any of these settings, you will need to respring your device. With the blur effect completely disabled in Control Center and/or Notification Center (yes, Auxo 2 is supported), you might get an effect similar to the ones below:

Whether you want to remove the blur effects in iOS 7, or you're just looking to be easier on the system's resources for performance, you may want to give Blur Remover a whirl. The tweak is available for free right now in Cydia's ModMyi repository. It requires iOS 7 to be installed.

I'm still looking for a tweak that removes the blur effect when making a phone call so I can see the caller ID picture when making the call.
