  • Twitter Updates iOS App With New Mute Feature, Improvements for iPad App

On Monday, the popular Twitter social networking application for iOS received an update, bringing the latest version of the application up to version 6.5.

Twitter noted in a blog post on the same day that the company was rolling out a new feature that would allow users to mute certain Twitter users in order to selectively choose what shows up in their Twitter news feeds. The feature is being rolled out for iOS users, Android users, and also those using Twitter through the Web user interface:

In the same way you can turn on device notifications so you never miss a Tweet from your favorite users, you can now mute users you’d like to hear from less. Muting a user on Twitter means their Tweets and Retweets will no longer be visible in your home timeline, and you will no longer receive push or SMS notifications from that user. The muted user will still be able to fave, reply to, and retweet your Tweets; you just won’t see any of that activity in your timeline. The muted user will not know that you’ve muted them, and of course you can unmute at any time.

To mute a user from a Tweet on your iOS or Android device or on Twitter for web tap more and then mute @username. To mute someone from their profile page, tap the gear icon on the page and choose mute @username.
In addition, the update gives iPad users a number of new features to be excited about, including the ability to change between showing the top, or all Tweets in search results, previews for Tweets with Vine or Photo content, quickly being able to retweet, reply, or favorite a Tweet right from your timeline, adding filters to photos, easier access to Direct Messages, and more.

Existing users of the Twitter application for iOS will find the update under the Updates tab in the App Store application. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of Twitter for iOS for free from this App Store link.
