'Timely' Spells the Time Out on the iOS 7 Lock Screen
Your default iOS 7 Lock Screen probably does a good job of telling you the time, but for those that want to customize it further than Apple would ever allow you to do, you can check out a new free jailbreak tweak called Timely
by iOS developer Phillip Tennen.
Timely replaces the iOS 7 Lock Screen interface with verbiage for telling you the time, as shown above. In the case of our testing, the time was 12:32. Timely can tell you the time in one of two ways – it can round to the nearest five minutes, or it can show the exact time. On the left, we show you how it rounds the time to say 12:30 in words, but on the right, we show you how it displays the time exactly to say 12:32 in words. Although the Lock Screen looks different with Timely installed, you still swipe to unlock as usual.
The tweak comes with customization options that are available in the tweak's preferences pane from the Settings application:
You can enable or disable the tweak on demand, choose to use Timely's wallpaper or your own wallpaper, enable or disable exact time mode, and configure the individual colors of the highlighted text, dimmed text, and background. For using the Timely wallpaper, you will need to make sure that you don't have an identical wallpaper set for both your Lock Screen and Home Screen, or it won't work correctly – they should be different when you try using this feature.
Timely is definitely a really fancy and interesting way to make your Lock Screen time stand out; if you're interested in giving it a go, it's available for free in Cydia's BigBoss repository.
