Time Publishes Apple 'Doomsday Clock'
Amidst an ever strengthening chorus of criticisms that Apple is on the "cusp of irrelevance" if it doesn't return to its innovative roots with the release of a bold new product in a new product category (and soon), Time magazine today published what's being billed as an Apple doomsday clock.
In fact, by author Harry McCracken's account, if Apple fails to release the long-rumored iWatch within the next 60 days, Apple may fall past the point of no return, especially with a growing number of tech companies forging ahead with great success in the wearables market (like Google formal announcement of Android Wear
“They only have 60 days left to either come up with something or they will disappear,” Trip Chowdhry, managing director at Global Equities Research, said this week. “It will take years for Apple’s $130 billion in cash to vanish, but it will become an irrelevant company … it will become a zombie, if they don’t come up with an iWatch.”
By McCracken's admission, saying that Apple could be doomed if it doesn't dazzle us with an iWatch (or something new and exciting) within the next 60 days isn't just "another wacky over-the-top Apple prediction." The market is truly growing restless with Apple's slow and uninspiring pace of product releases in recent years.
And so the clock is now ticking.
believe Apple is really this close to a detrimental downfall if something isn't done imminently to revitalize the brand's reputation for innovation?
