  • 'BetterLS' Lets You Configure the Apperance of the iOS 7 Lock Screen

If you're looking to simplify your iOS 7 Lock Screen, or customize what does and doesn't show up, then check out a new jailbreak tweak called BetterLS by iOS developer Aaron Thomas.

With this tweak, you will be able to hide or show just about anything on the Lock Screen, as well as adjust the spacing of certain items. You will find a new preferences pane in the Settings application where you can configure all of the options to your liking:

    The options include:

    • Changing the style of the Status Bar
    • Enabling a better grabber feature
    • Showing and hiding album art/media controls
    • Choosing a custom distance between elements on the Lock Screen
    • Choosing a custom distance from the top of the screen
    • Changing the style of the slide to unlock text
    • Hiding or showing various Lock Screen items including grabbers, slide text, and more

With the flexibility the tweak gives you, you have a lot of wiggle room to make the Lock Screen as minimalistic as you like it, which for some, is useful for widgets and other Lock Screen items.

If you would like to give BetterLS a try, it's available right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository for $1.50. The tweak requires iOS 7 to be installed.

    Name: BetterLS
    Price: $1.50
    Version: 1.0.0-1
    Requirements: iOS 7.0-7.0.6
Tested on: iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.6
    Repo: BigBoss
    Developer: Aaron Thomas
    Editor's Rating:  4/5

So far I've seen no lockscreen tweak that does the obvious: let's the user create a simple text message (like contact info) in case it's lost and someone wants to give it back to the owner.

I can't recall anything off the top of my head but I wouldn't bet much money that there this isn't an existing tweak capable of that functionality. Regardless, I'm just writing to make sure you know about your ability to do exactly that from iCloud.com via find my iPhone should you ever lose your phone. I think it's completely worth it and barely a trade off having a short window from when you've lost your phone till you find an internet connection for the ability to customize your message to the specific situation that you're in (location, numbers of the people you're with, etc). Plus you don't have to look at a dumb please call xxxxxxxx if found EVERY single time you unlock your phone. Of course I'm never more than a stones throw from being able to has cheezburger. You might live in the 90's or something. If so maybe you could just always carry an aol free trial disc on you? But honestly, I bet what you're looking for is a google search and a glance at the results away. But if not why not take a screen shot of the text you want to it to say over a cool background and save it as your poco screen?

You don't need a cydia tweak for that I'm using this https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/lock...731374521?mt=8 and it's free.

Does anyone know if you remove the big date & time on the lockscreen if this tweak actually puts notifications in that empty spot? My lockscreen feels so cramped on my 4S in iOS 7.

I have a few diff apps that have most of this functionality already, but how nice to have it all in one place. Might just have to grab it.
