  • So-Called Apple Smart TV May Be Released Later This Year

Apple may be moving at a much faster pace than originally anticipated with the company's long expected but still un-confirmed newest project - an Internet-connected high-def flat screen television set. According to the latest reports, this rumored high-end product could debut as soon as late 2011.

Ticonderoga Securities Brian White said this week that Apple is poised to jump into the $100 billion LCD TV market much sooner than expected and all signs point to that eventuality. The evidence? White says the "data points" he's picked up overseas suggests that Apple's "Smart TV" is coming soon.

"Our research suggests this Smart TV would go well beyond the miniature $99 second-generation Apple TV that the company released last fall and provide a full-blown TV product for consumers," White told investors Wednesday. "The combination of Apple's powerful ecosystem, industrial design savvy, powerful brand and ability to reinvent product categories could make Apple a powerful force in the TV world over the next few years," he said.

Of course, you may be saying to yourself "haven't I already heard this report?" If so, you're correct. Several months ago, Wall Street analyst Gene Munster similarly weighed in on the prospect of a connected-TV from Apple, saying that the new product would debut sometime next year. Although it isn't clear which analyst (if either) is correct in their reported timetables for launch, it is obvious that Apple is, indeed, working on something big - something that suggests to multiple analysts and news media outlets that a "smart TV" could be Apple's next big thing.

Ya I'm thinking it'll be like $1199 for a 32in $1599 for a 42in $1999 for 46in and and $2399 for 50in.... Knowing Apple that will be generous... Think I'll be fine with the 46'' LED TV I got right now...

Yeah think I'd wait at least a year or so to buy so all the bugs are worked out. I would assume some thing to do with 3D with no glasses too cause that is what's already out (few and expensive but available).

What does apple make that's more than a $100 that's not ridiculously overpriced? Think about it...

Even their docks, cables and cases are ridiculously overpriced.

Good luck to people planning on replacing their TV every year...

Can't call it iTV over here in the uk as we have iTV as a tv channel.

For some strange reason I don't think the picture quality will be on par with current mid to high end tv's.

Still, as the fanboy that I am, I'll buy it anyway

If Apple can beat the Plasma panel of a Pioneer Kuro TV, I will buy it and if it ran iOS. I love high contrast ratios and deep black levels and right now I have a Panasonic GT30 plasma which is the second best TV out there after Pioneer Kuro as it has a super high contrast ratio and the deepest black levels out of led and other plasmas on the market.

Apple should go with plasma. LCD and led backlighting isn't as good as a Panasonic plasma.

Another consumer electronic market that Apple will come in and dominate.

LMAO at the morons complaining about Apple's high prices like its 2005 or something. iPad, iPhone, iPods are all extremely affordable products. Even the Macs are well priced for the quality they have.
