Following what its makers deemed a remarkable outpouring of support from the Indiegogo community, the Air Dock - an eagerly anticipated wireless charging dock for a variety of leading smartphones - is expected to ship in May.
Unlike the majority of iPhone holders and wireless phone chargers MMi has covered in recent years, the level of public interest and support for the Air Dock has been an impressive anomaly generating almost as much interest and attention as a major smartphone release.
If you're not familiar with the Air Dock from its foray into crowdfunding, the holder props up your phone with no clips or clamps. It wirelessly charges a device without plugging the phone into anything.
"The face of the Air Dock is a micro suction foam that securely holds your phone in place," the product description reads. "Inside the Air Dock are magnets that pull the phone tightly into the foam face. Most phones compatible with Qi wireless chargers will work on the Air Dock."
Although they are actively testing more phones for future compatibility, for now the Air Dock wireless charger will work with the Galaxy S4/S3, Nexus 5/7, Note 2/3, and the iPhone 4/5. iPhone users, however, must use a wireless charging compatible case.
The wireless charging hardware is built into the back of the case, and the bottom of the case plugs into the power port for the phone. Once the iPhone is in the case then the phone will charge wirelessly. There are numerous of these cases to be had for both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5. If you buy your own please make sure that the back of it is glossy. We will be testing these aftermarket cases and recommending/supplying the one we find works best. They will be available in both white and black for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4.
