  • iOS 7.1 Already Installed On Nearly 6% of North American Devices in Just 24 Hours

iOS 7.1 was released to the public Monday afternoon, and already, the new firmware update appears to be running on almost 6% of North American iOS devices just under 24 hours of the firmware's public release, according to Chitika. The firm uses Web traffic data to get an idea of what firmware is being used on mobile devices.

iOS 7.1 closes the evasi0n7 jailbreak, so many people are steering clear of it, but on the other hand, it includes a number of user interface improvements, security improvements, stability improvements, and new features that many users are flocking to. iPhone 4 users will notice a notable performance gain with iOS 7.1 as well.

iOS 7.1 brings users CarPlay, Siri improvements, iTunes Radio improvements, Calendar improvements, Accessibility improvements, and a number of other improvements that we noted yesterday.

If you're planning on upgrading, you can do so through iTunes, or via the Software Update option in the Settings application of your iOS device. As always, jailbreakers are warned to stay far away from iOS 7.1, as there is no existing jailbreak for the firmware at this point in time.

    Are you running iOS 7.1?

I installed it because I don't feel a need to jailbreak iOS 7 anymore. I'm loving the new phone UI. I just couldn't accept staying on an OS that randomly crashes (probably every couple weeks at least) for another year.

Hard to believe someone would willingly update to an iOS version that cannot be jailbroken.

Even harder to believe is that someone would consider using ANY iOS version without a JB. Once you jailbreak, you will NEVER go back to stock, ever, at least not me.

yeah that would explain the 60-100 hour update time its been telling me since yesterday afternoon lol. And while I have jailbroken every iOS device I had in the past, it just doesnt seem to excite me that much anymore, so I am WILLINGLY upgrading

Deciding not to jailbreak anymore is actually a huge relief to me, though I can see why some still prefer iOS jailbroken.

I think one of the biggest reasons to jailbreak is to be able to copy some photos to your device without the creation of the goofy synced album that can't be merged into the camera roll. I think it might be possible to transfer photos to an App Store app and save them to the camera roll from there, though, but I haven't tested it. Then again you would still have to press a button for each photo, so that would probably be even worse if you have a lot of photos.

Also, what's up with the way iOS 7 only allows background video audio if it's explicitly enabled by the developer?

you can't miss what you don't have so I won't be updating to iOS 7.1. I'll keep my jailbreak, thanks.

I am loving my tweaks and themes so I will be staying at 7.0.6.

Jailbreaking used to be necessary. It isn't really anymore. It allows you to add some themes, and do a few other neat little things you can't currently do with stock IOS, but those things are getting fewer and fewer. It also means, for a while at least, you cant use some important apps until a developer comes up with a way to fool those apps into thinking your jailbroken phone isn't actually jailbroken. Add to that the lack of stability that comes along with some of those jailbroken apps, and you really have to think about it.

I will probably jailbreak my phone again if they ever come out with one for 7.1, but I won't miss it at all while I am waiting.

Hard to believe that someone is so self centered on what they do that they cannot understand what or why other people do something else?

I have always jailbroken my phones and my kids and my wifes. I feel NO need to jailbreak anymore. After I got over the little (in my opinion) useless "tweaks" that just took up my time, I realized the actual FUNCTIONALITY of the phone no longer needed improvement that the jailbreaks gave me after ios 7. The only tweak I like was the 5 icon dock. I can do without...
SO I and my kids are back to stock AND HAPPY WITH IT!!

      really THAT hard to believe???

I strongly believe the only issues to make you upgrade is stability and security. However these two which will need to prove that are for real will not make me upgrading to 7.1. I am still excited about the jailbreak are million of tweaks and apps that will make your IOS enjoyable at maximum. And yes if you choose to use only free Cydia apps probably will not excite so much, but if you choose to pay for what you like, trust me that you will get excited (an use my 5s for business) .
I am not upgrading until there is a jailbreak for 7.1.

Sorry, but if this was what you used the jailbreak ?! you are right, you don't need to jailbreak.
Jailbreak is much more than that.

I've jailbroken my devices for four years (probably not as long as you), and have even developed software for the jailbreak community. I realize that there are other tweaks, but the vast majority of them don't add any functionality I actually need, and four years was long enough to mess around with the various other ones that I would wind up uninstalling after a week or two (it's been getting to the point where there's even less of those). I've also never really enjoyed any themes for whatever reason, so there's just nothing to persuade me to stay on an unstable OS for at least another eight months, probably closer to a year.
