  • Flappy Bird Developer Considering Bringing Flappy Bird Back to the App Store

The highly popular Flappy Bird game that was pulled from the App Store by its developer, Dong Nguyen, may see a comeback in the future. When asked if Flappy Bird would ever come back, Nguyen told Rolling Stone that he is considering bringing the game back, and that it was removed simply because people were too addicted to it and needed a break:

"I'm considering it," Nguyen says. He’s not working on a new version, but if he ever releases one it will come with a "warning," he says: "Please take a break."
Flappy Bird was a free game that had in-app ads that generated over $50,000 per day in ad-based revenue for the young developer. While successful, Nguyen notes that he didn't really want all of the popularity and recognition:

As news hit of how much money Nguyen was making, his face appeared in the Vietnamese papers and on TV, which was how his mom and dad first learned their son had made the game. The local paparazzi soon besieged his parents' house, and he couldn’t go out unnoticed. While this might seem a small price to pay for such fame and fortune, for Nguyen the attention felt suffocating.
It's not to go unnoticed that many people who played Flappy Bird would get so upset with themselves for not being able to beat their scores that they actually broke their iPhones out of anger. The game also sparked very competitive behavior among players that just seemed unnaturally addicting.

There's no estimated date, or even guarantee that the developer will bring Flappy Bird back to the App Store at this point in time, but as we hear more, we'll be sure to keep you updated. We know many of you were Flappy Bird fans just like we are. In the mean time, there are plenty of Flappy Bird wannabes available in the App Store to keep you occupied.

I just wonder if no one gets paid for the ads that still appear in the app if you have it already downloaded. Does Apple still collect the 30%? 100%? Does he still get the 70%?

Of course he is! He realizes how much money he can make from it and doesn't want to go back to living without all that money! I knew it was only a matter of time before he came crawling back lol.

He still gets it. Just no additional revenue.

Excellent campaign. It is/was addicting for a few days / week, then it becomes the simple stupid app it is. Don't get me wrong, my kids and their friends had it too, but got bored with it until it was taken away from new friends downloading it.

Bring it back, spike the ad revenue then it will die again quicker that the first time, but will have a huge rebound and record downloads the first few days.... Still making thousands a day during the meantime. Excellent marketing strategy. (Best yet).

I'm sure others will follow like they did the game.
