  • Apple is Expected to Ship iOS 7.1 "Any Day Now"

With the debut of iTunes Festival set to kick off next week, Apple will reportedly update its iOS application to support live streaming of the concerts from the SXSW festival, but not before the iOS 7.1 update is issued to iPhone and iPad owners. John Gruber of Daring Fireball reported recently that a “little birdie” told him the new iTunes festival application will require iOS 7.1. Based on the tip, iOS 7.1 is expected to ship “any day not” to end users.

It was also previously rumored that iOS 7.1 is expected to arrive in March. Ahead of the update’s launch, Apple debuted new mass deployment tools last week, making it easier for IT professionals to launch large numbers of iOS devices in enterprise or education settings.

The pre-release versions of iOS 7 have been supplied to developers for testing since last November, making this beta period particularly lengthy. Since iOS 7 launched last September, users have expressed frustration with a number of lingering bugs that have yet to be patched. Most notably, users have experienced crashes when using the new multitasking interface, while the Safari browser is also prone to frequent crashes.

Up until now, there have been five beta releases of iOS 7.1, the most recent arriving in early February. It features new “natural sounding” Siri voices for international users in the UK, Australia and Japan. It has also been rumored that Apple is preparing a software update that will enhance the functionality of Touch ID, potentially fixing a “fade” issue that has been experienced by some iPhone 5S users. It’s unknown whether that update will be part of iOS 7.1 or if it will arrive independently.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

You'd prefer 7.1 over 7.0.6 jailbroken? What does 7.1 offer?

7.1 only offers a few small cosmetic/visual tweaks (dialer screens different icons, dark keyboard, few icon changes in the OS). Hardly anything exciting, or worth losing a jailbreak for or cant mirror with a jailbreak tweak.

I'm looking forward to running 7.1 on my 5S! While love Jailbreaking I prefer stability over the 7.0.X versions. Absolutely shoddy & the 7.1 beta versions have felt snappier & how iOS 7.0 should have been at release.

7.1 update is that much better, to sacrifice a jailbreak? I mean I did last year for beta testing iOS7 LOL But to me that was worth it, that big of a change.

I think you guys are making a mistake lol. If it was possible to run iOS 6 on my 5S vs iOS 7, both jailbroken, I'd run iOS 6 JB

Well my 5S isn't Jailbroken but my 5 is on 6.1JB. I'm not really finding 7X themeing that appealing IMO.

I agree. Nothing stands out like the themes did on iOS 6

I did the exact same thing and might again with iOS 8 if there is a huge leap. But 7.0.x-7.1 really has no benefit. There is a tweak to speed up the device, a tweak to get the new icons, and tweaks to help prevent crashes. Everything iOS 7.1.x currently offers is obsolete and well beyond the point of not being worth losing a jailbreak for at least another year.

Would you please state some of those tweaks that you speak of? I would like to download those if they mean I don't have to lose my jailbreak to gain stability.

I will not update my iPhone to 7.1, because has nothing to compensate the jailbreak. By the way, there is any word on IOS 7.1 jailbreak?

Haha! I'm just saying its not ALL about the jailbreak! Most of the time it is but when u have been Jailbreaking since iOS 3-4 it can get a bit repetitive.

I've come up with the assumption that perhaps my daily driver iphone might not be jailbroken anymore. Sure I have testers that I can Jailbreak but after evasion7 was released & the concerns around it I'm beginning to think differently.

      It's everyone's choice right?

So as it stands my 5S I bought in Jan is still jailed. Not that big of a deal...for me.

Where's the tweak that fixes the issue with webview? This is a huge bug that has been fixed in 7.1, it alone is worth the upgrade. Passlock issues, no HTML on SB, iOS 7.0.x is the worst iOS to date as far as bugs go. 7.1 fixes a lot of these issues. Too bad that there isn't a definite plan to JB 7.1

I have to agree with that. But it's also the most advanced to date.

I can't remember the name of the speed one for the life of me. The theme is IOS 7.1 Icons Theme. The debug tweaks I use are UIDeviceCrasher and RespringCacheFix. Both of the tweaks are in Rpetrich's beta repo. http://rpetri.ch/repo/

If apple introduces actionable notifications I will be fine without Jailbreaking. I can dream right???
