  • 'BattSaver for iOS 7' Gives You Advanced Battery Saving Settings in iOS 7

Chances are, you could benefit from increased battery life on one or more of your iOS 7 devices. If so, then you may want to take a look at BattSaver for iOS 7, which is the iOS 7-compatible version of BattSaver by iOS developer Xvolks.

With this application installed, you will get several new settings that you can configure to conserve battery power when you don't need to be using it.

You will find a new application on your Home Screen. When you open it, you'll see the interface above on the left, and you'll see cells for graphs, battery state, settings, battery saving strategies, information, and more.

When you go into the saving strategies, shown above in the center, you will be able to configure your device to use a special battery-saving method, which involves enabling or disabling your iOS device's wireless radios selectively depending on whether or not you need them.

You will find "None" Mode, which doesn't change your iOS device's radio settings at all, "iMessage Friendly" Mode, which disables all wireless radios except for Edge so that you can make sure you're getting iMessages and text messages, but not much else, "Normal" Mode, which disables your wireless radios whenever you put your iOS device to sleep, "Aggressive" Mode, which disables all of your cellular radios when you're connected to a Wi-Fi network, "Ultimate" Mode, which disables all wireless radios and forces you to turn them on manually, and "Custom" Mode, which allows you to configure the settings for wireless radios manually.

Above on the right, you will see the options you have for Custom Mode, which include configuring your wireless radios depending on the state of the device, periodic background updates, intervals, Wi-Fi settings, radio delays, radio settings at critical battery levels, radio settings when plugged into a power source, and more.

You will find an additional Settings cell from the main interface of the application, shown below:

Here, you can configure your battery savings strategy, change radio settings, enable or disable car mode, enable or disable the Status Bar icon, enable or disable 3G or 4G, save battery information, and purge battery information.

BattSaver for iOS 7 also includes useful graph information so you can see your iOS device's battery performance over time:

You can manually purge graph data whenever you want to.

The application also includes miscellaneous battery information:

As well as some miscellaneous device information:

With BattSaver for iOS 7, you can increase your battery life quite effectively. The developer claims that the application can give you up to two time the battery life that you would normally get thanks to the selective radio enabling and disabling.

If you would like to give the application a try, then it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for $3.99. If you own the iOS 5 and iOS 6-version of BattSaver, then BattSaver for iOS 7 is a free upgrade.

I've had this since iOS6 and it's still a buggy mess. Version 2.0.7 didn't save the settings and the radios wouldn't turn back on when the phone was out of sleep mode, causing many missed emails. This was regardless of the settings I had. I tried turning radios on after 3 seconds and 10 seconds, neither worked and I ended up having to manually turn them back on.

Version 2.0.8 - I don't know. Why? Because the icon won't show up on my springboard and there are no settings to configure in the settings screen. The developers response? Install version 2.0.1 (on my iOS 7 device even though that's an iOS6 version) and then upgrade. So I tried this. What happened? Absolutely nothing, the icon and settings still don't show up. The developer's response? Nothing in the past 4 days. Complete waste of money.

My "battery saver" is keeping a charging cord at home, at work, and in my car. Go figure.

Good point. I've spent well over $100 on extra cables and adapters to ensure our iDevices are always charged. I really wish Apple would focus on battery size and forget thinner and lighter just one product iteration.
